Game 127: Rays at Tigers
Tampa Bay Rays at Detroit Tigers, Aug 28, 2009 7:05 PM EDT
Matt Garza (10-5, 2.86) vs.
Rick Porcello (9-7, 5.33), 7:05 p.m. EST
After a 3-3 west coast trip, the Tigers are back in Detroit for a seven-game homestand. (And 7 p.m. EST start times!) The Tampa Bay Rays are their opponent for the next two weekends. Last year, the Tigers went 3-4 against the Rays. Detroit is 8-17 against AL East teams this season.
Matt Garza is winless in his past five starts, despite allowing three runs or fewer in four of those games. In his last two appearances, Garza's given up just four runs over 12 innings, with 14 strikeouts and two walks. On the road this season, he's 3-4 with a 4.43 ERA. In two career starts at Comerica Park, his record is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA. Garza is 0-3 with a 4.94 ERA against the Tigers in five starts.
Rick Porcello was originally scheduled to start tomorrow night, but was pushed up when the Tigers decided to rest Armando Galarraga and pitch Nate Robertson in his place. With yesterday's off-day, however, Porcello still got four days of rest.
After pitching well in his previous four starts (four runs in 20.1 innings), Porcello tripped up in his last outing. Against the A's, Kid Rick gave up five runs and eight hits (two of them homers) in less than six innings. Porcello is 5-3 with a 4.60 ERA in 11 starts at home.

Sounds like the game won't be rained out...
though I wouldn’t have minded so much as it would (probably) mean Porcello tomorrow on fox instead of Nate.

Wait, Aubrey "3-for-13 against Garza" Huff?
I guess it’s better than Marcus “0-for-5” Thames.
Didn’t we get Huff for some offense? Every time I check out his pitching matchup I start to cry.

They’re talking CC for Cy Young contention, too. Right now, in my mind, it’s a one-horse race with Grienke. He hasn’t had an off month like Verlander or CC have had. It’s not his fault the Royals suck — he’s holding his end of the bargain up JUST fine.
