Game 107 Overflow Thread
It's a lovely afternoon for baseball. 6-1 middle of the 5th.
Looks like all the sacrificing to Wieters has paid off, Ian’s attending the game and bringing the guys some luck! The Kid Rick is having a great day with a no-hitter through four innings. New boy Avila also got his first hit and RBI. We're hoping to take 3/4 here at home to go into the next series on a high before the Twinkies come to town tomorrow.

He'd better live up to the hype you've created
Then again they will be the away team and I will be cheering against them prob
kurt
didn’t mean to step on anyone’s toes :) my internet is super slow today so I was hoping to get an overflow going ASAP.
well I guess Avila is trying to crush my objections to his being brought up

someone said
avila will catch for porcello/galarraga but I hadn’t heard/seen where that came from.

The Lord cannot hold onto the ball!
But it was the fault of the pitcher, because Wieters can do no wrong.
It's annoying when I can only follow the game on gameday.
And there are actual things I want to see, like Avila.
Yeah, he's looking good
I mean it’s only one game, but 2 for 3 in your debut ain’t too shabby

I was trying to move things over before it got too big
for selfish reasons, my internet sucks today, and also I didn’t want to forget
oh, i read the whole other thread
working my way down to post, then i saw it had already gone to an overflow
You ever think Edwin points to Rick and say's you spoiled little brat
and he looks at the score board.
OMW.... I come back to this
7 – 1 . Praise Wieters…..
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
So all this time
Witers has been nothing more than an illusion. Like the Great and powerful OZ….woah..
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
thats good
But I hate Ozzie so much, I want him to suffer more than that. AJ too.
Welcome to Detroit>>Where the weak are killed and eaten.
I can't bring myself to say it
So I just say “that’s good” when I find out they’re ahead

Good idea
I hate the Indians more than any other sports team. The Penguins are a close second, followed by the Twinks and the Deadwings.
Don’t really hate Chicago- I love Ozzie Guillen.
Yeah, I REALLY hate the Indians
Twins too. Don’t hate Chicago as much as most people here seem to but they annoy me.
by kendra.michelle on Aug 6, 2009 2:47 PM EDT up reply actions
Indians and Red Sox are the teams I hate
Not a big fan of the White Sox, but so many of my favorite bands are from Chicago so I can’t bring myself to loathe them as passionately as most on here. I find Ozzie Guillen to be funny more than anything else. The Twins are just kind of annoying to me.

I'm none too fond of those Yankees
I’m sort of neutral toward the Red Sox. I sort of implied that I have a ton of hate for the Twins which I don’t really. I dislike them quite a bit but I don’t have the same hate for them that I do for Cleveland.
by kendra.michelle on Aug 6, 2009 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions
Meh
To me the Yankees are just another team, on par with the Rangers, A’s, Mariners, etc.

For me it's the White Sox
I guess it goes all the way back to the late 70’s but I just can’t stand the White Sox. Ozzie just makes it easier to justify my irrational emotions toward them.
Nobody else bothers me though
Ervin Santana's ERA is over seven right now.

you're definitely missing Bailey
He’s near the top of most lists i’ve seen.
But I agree, Porcello’s really not in the running unless he puts together heck of a final two months

2.18 ERA, 71 strikeouts in 62 innings, 15 saves

Cant believe I forgot Andrus
He’s frontrunner for sure.
My ballot
Andrus
Bailey
Porcello
Romero
Beckham
I’d say it’s
Andrus
Bailey
Romero
Beckham
Porcello
I don’t see how you can put Porcello above Romero other than “he’s a tiger.”
by Kurt Mensching on Aug 6, 2009 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Injuries
A bit of homerism, but Romero missed a few starts in there due to injury. Becks was a midseason callup, which hurts him in my book as well.
Anyone else hold their breath when Luke Scott's swing is that big?

Final in Cleveland: 2-1 Indians

6-3 Angels. Vlad Guerrero has homered.

Sorry, I saw M-ggs and assumed it said Maggs
I promise I know how to read words

oh mang I have the worst headache
want this to be over so I can get some advil when I run home to watch postgame
How glad is Leyland that he took Magglio out of RF?
No offense to him but no way would he have gotten that, IMO
Yeah, Angels pitching in general has not been particularly good this year
Rangers pitching has actually been better, if I’m not mistaken. The Angels’ offense has been red hot, though.

i'm not sure
how the series against minnesota is going to go. they’re getting beat up pretty good right now, pitching-wise, and we’re at home…
Yay, I'm going on Saturday.
Last game of the season :(
I’d say a lot depends on what we get from Washburn on Sunday. I think he’ll do pretty well.
i think it'll be more
if our bats continue to be good like they have in this series. but yeah, washburn has to have a better game than his last one for us.
Hahahaha
Rod: “I didn’t know you used Ebonics”
Mario: “I’ve been taking a course over the summer”
They are great.

all that's missing is the ramen in your college diet
by Kurt Mensching on Aug 6, 2009 3:17 PM EDT up reply actions
Psh
I’m in college, and I don’t eat PBJ and ramen. Just because I’m poor doesn’t mean I don’t eat well. :D
I've been out of college 6 years
but you’re not gonna pry the PB&J out of my hands
by Kurt Mensching on Aug 6, 2009 3:21 PM EDT up reply actions
I don't like jam that much
At least, not with peanut butter.
Still don’t eat that much PB… helps when your roommate’s asian and owns a rice cooker.
My college roommate was Nigerian
That was … interesting … food.

oooh
i bet that was tasty. when i went to kenya, i got to try a lot of traditional east african dishes, all of them delicious
I'm in college
and I will cop to eating ramen now and again

completely OT
but I really dislike it when chatting to a friend in Iraq and he says things like “something just exploded”
blah
I guess it would be correct to state that Seay is out of that loooong hot streak he had
that’s ok though….he’ll get on another one
do you think he just lost the plate?
the first 3 he threw were all over and this has been going on since the break- at least
don't screw this up for Ricky, Bobby

He has a holy card (and only you Catholics/lapsed Catholics of a certain age will understand that)
Well, I'm off to work
Hopefully the boys’ll wrap this up while I’m in the car.

Not a close situation, used him last night.
Possibly tough series coming. He was available today, but there’s no point in putting him in since we were never in high danger.

not a save situation, and leyland has finally figured that one out?

Eating some crow
I’ll still a little bit amazed by how well Lyon has pitched since about mid-May. I thought he would be better, but Seay and him have near parallel stats now.
Nice win today boys!
solid victory today
Good to see Brandon and Kid Rick get back on track…well, Porcello got back on track last time out, but the bullpen let him down….
