Game 110 Overflow Thread

We now know that Jarrod Washburn can serve up some bazooka shot home runs to straight-away center field.  But we also now know that the Tigers have some comeback in them.  What can Washburn do with his first lead as a Tiger?

Tigers 4, Twins 3 going to the fifth inning!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of the Bless You Boys writing staff.

totally

We just need to wait for the 2010 schedule and then start figuring out when to do this.

Not to be the turd in the punch bowl

but as previously stated, Magglio is now a mere 100 plate appearances from being on the books for 18 mill next year. With 53 games to go, he almost certainly will get there.

right

got it and responded

I feel like I’m setting up a blind drop in a spy novel. “I’ll be wearing a pale blue shirt with the collar turned up on the left side, and carrying a black briefcase with a badly scuffed handle.” :D

And an open notebook in front of me on the cafe table. When you approach, do not look at the briefcase or the notebook, but ask, “Excuse me, but do you have the time?” I will respond by telling you, “I’m sorry, but my watch battery died yesterday, so I cannot help you.”

Leave the cafe and sit in the park by the gyro kiosk, and you will be contacted by my associate.

Yeah, there’s going to be a tough decision to make.

But if Maggs is hitting, I think the Tigers might somehow live with this.

Washburn needs to make this lead hold up.

getting Span OUT for a change

Is a good start toward that goal.

Glad to see that the Tigers offense takes off after I get back home. Unfortunately I walked in to see the back-to-back Minny homers to CF.

Just had to ask this though: anyone remember the Eric Munson HR to CF that landed IN the camera well? That Delmon Young HR was the furthest ball I’ve seen hit to CF since then, unless I’m forgetting one.

by Mike Rogers on Aug 9, 2009 2:38 PM EDT reply actions

I ca't recall one

But I remember how far that homer went.

not really

he’s still a singles hitter. Just saying, 18 million is a huge sum of money.

by ThaWalrus9 on Aug 9, 2009 2:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Going on record here

Yesterday’s game was a fluke for the Twinkies. It was their last gasp at winning the division and they gave it everything. Today’s game (and Friday’s) is much more exemplary of Tigers vs. Twins from now on.

by NCDee on Aug 9, 2009 2:41 PM EDT reply actions

Problem with Magg’s hips opening up so much, it makes him susceptible to the outside pitch, no? When do/will pitchers realize this?

by Mike Rogers on Aug 9, 2009 2:42 PM EDT reply actions

I can't even make an educated guess.

But both of his singles today were on pitches on the outer half of the plate.

by Ryan Weiss on Aug 9, 2009 3:31 PM EDT up reply actions

It’s not just PA’s, he can get it with 270 games started between 2008 and 2009 or just 135 starts in 2009.

# 2010 option guaranteed at $18M if Ordonez has:

    * 135 starts or 540 PAs in 2009, or
    * 270 starts or 1,080 PAs in 2008-09

# 2011 option guaranteed at $15M if Ordonez has:

    * 135 starts or 540 PAs in 2010, or
    * 270 starts or 1,080 PAs in 2009-10

So, he’s at 228 starts the last two seasons and at 84 this year. So he’s got 52 games after today, and if he starts just 42 of them to get to 270 starts.
