Tigers Win! Game 131 Afterglow Thread
You probably would've felt better about tonight's game if you turned the channel when the score was Tigers 8, Indians 1. Things got a little bit tighter after that fourth inning. And I think Edwin Jackson is still glowering out of the dugout.
But it's always nice to see the Tigers pounce on a pitcher and mash him. Carlos Carrasco will probably try to forget his major league debut quickly. With eight runs and nine hits allowed in three innings, that pitching line looks like one of Jarrod Washburn's starts since coming to Detroit.
Full recap later on. For now, enjoy the afterglow! (The glow will be brighter if the White Sox can make a late-inning comeback against the Twins.)

mine kept demanding I give it my credit card again or be blacked out

At the beginning of the season...
Mine kept thinking I lived somewhere in Illinois. I’d be able to watch Tigers games without being blacked out, but I would get blacked out of White Sox, Cubs, and Brewers games.

it was blocking me out of oakland games
for no reason at all. but i’m good to go now.
Wow, there’s some annoying commercials now too!

Sox score two in the 8th!
3-up going into the twins frame.
It always seems like the reporters at the post game Leyland interview
are WAYYY too close too him.. those mics will pick him up a few inches further away fellas
I like it when they interview him in Cleveland
There’s a bathroom right behind the manager’s desk, and try as they might, the television crews just can’t get the toilet out of the shot. You’d think someone would figure out to close the bathroom door before the interview starts.

ok this is really hard
first thing I wnated to do was root for the sox to drop the ball. then I remembered they needed to win.
Then I was rooting for Mauer. Then I remembered he’s supposed to get out.
I am most certainly hoping Morneau makes an out.
I can't dislike Mauer, there's really nothing at all to dislike about him
plus he’s been my keeper league’s catcher since his rookie year. I’ve been rooting for his success forever.
so this is just so confusing.
by Kurt Mensching on Sep 1, 2009 10:27 PM EDT up reply actions
he'd be easier to dislike as a red sock
but he’ll probably just be one of those guys I’m happy to follow for his career
by Kurt Mensching on Sep 1, 2009 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions
I really have no opinion on Morneau
For some reason, I find Mauer to be extremely boring.

I know he's a good cathcer...
but they really need to move him off of the plate soon. Too bad 1st is occupied.
We'll some folks on the Sox blogs
say that’s all they have to look forward to now that KW threw in the towel.

I feel like a broke-ass
Everyone gets to watch MLBtv and I get to follow the game on Strat-O-Matic.
don't worry I'm a brokeass too...
and I don’t have the patience to watch it on gameday.

Guess the GM bankruptcy
wasn’t a total loss for Michigan
I go with the monthly subscription
It’s not the most cost-effective, but I can’t afford the season pass in one fail swoop. I can spare 20 bucks a month, though.

Now that is a good investment
No cable but Baseball galore? I could live with that…
Something I heard from Sox beat reporter....
they are going to back the truck up to get Figgins, who is an unrestricted free agent.
That wouldn’t be good for us.
he still works in the market
just not for the News

Anyone who likes sportswriters...
writing about individual sports they have no business writing about.
or something...My English Professor
just came out of my computer screen and stabbed me in the eye.
He was the White Sox GM at one point....
let that sink in….
Oh...
and he fired both Tony LaRussa and Dave Dombrowski.
You beat me to it
I wasn’t alive for that, but I’ve seen pictures. They looked like soccer players.

Thornton's given up a leadoff single to Jason Kubel in the ninth.
:-(

Yeah, but the Twins have hit 142 home runs this year
That’s below league average, but not by much. They’re usually near the bottom.

Now, which is slower?
My At-Bat app or Tony Pena?
By the way, the Twins still go first-to-third

I love this.
From Wikipedia’ s Bill Veeck article.
n 1959 Veeck became head of a group that purchased a controlling interest in the Chicago White Sox, who went on to win their first pennant in 40 years, and broke a team attendance record for home games with 1.4 million. The next year the team broke the same record with 1.6 million visitors to Comiskey Park with the addition of the first “exploding scoreboard” in the major leagues – producing electrical and sound effects, and shooting fireworks whenever the White Sox hit a home run, and also began adding player’s surnames on the back of their uniform, a practice now standard by 25 of 30 clubs on all jerseys, and by three more clubs on road jerseys. According to Lee Allen in “The American League Story” (1961), after the Yankees watched the exploding scoreboard a few times, Clete Boyer, the weak-hitting third baseman, hit the ball over the outfield fence and Mickey Mantle and several other Yankee players came out of the dugout waving sparklers.
if the sox lose
thornton would get the loss even though he only allowed a single…oh well.

I have to follow the Tigers here and

Any Tiger radio stations on the net??
You should try ESPN Gamecast too. It's pretty good.
Don’t know about Tiger radio broadcasts other than MLB.com
How many out?

There is one near my house, though. Usually when I hang out with someone, we just get pizza.

but why did they hire a witch doctor to shrink everyone’s head?

Well
…guess we’ll have to do this on our own. Thanks Sux!
And Buehrle has not won since his perfect game...
…In fact, in most games, he hasn’t pitched particularly well.

Hopefully the kids can keep them going the rest of the series
fricking shite sox
watching that game at a bar, thought they had something when they came back to tie, and now I get home to this?
At least the Tigers took care of bizness.

Let's go, Rangers!
You guys need to get hot and get that Wild Card. For a multitude of reasons (both selfish and unselfish)
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
I've got the game on now
The Rangers are wearing the blue uniforms, and yet Pudge’s gear is red. That doesn’t make much sense. I know they had issues last week with the blue gear not fitting, but that should’ve been resolved by now.

Rangers win
Gain a half-game on Boston.
But Josh Hamilton looks like a werewolf with that beard.
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
Good deal
An ideal postseason scenario would be the Rangers somehow overtaking the Angels for the division, with the Halos winning the wild card, thus setting up a Tigers/Texas first round showdown. Yes, I’m putting all manner of carts before horses.
does the DTX
stand for Dallas, Texas, thus your hope for the Tigers playing nearby? haha

Oh. My. God.
Chris Coughlan of the Marlins uses the same batting music as Clete Thomas.

Well, I'm off to bed
6 AM wakeup time. I’ll fall asleep to either the Dodgers or the Marlins (haven’t decided yet). Hey, Cameron Maybin’s back in the big leagues.

Clearly
Mr. Polanco likes my penguin picture. :)
And that shot of Ozzie was both brilliant and disturbing. Nice win.
