Game 139 Overflow Thread
So far, it's been another rough one at Kauffman Stadium. But Jarrod Washburn looked pretty good. Especially if you compare his five innings to Zach Miner's one.
The score is Royals 6, Tigers 4 heading to the bottom of the eighth.

The Tigers have hit into four DPs today...
…and Magglio hasn’t hit into any of them. And he won’t hit into one in his next at-bat either.

When did he get up to .287, anyway?

He has two hits and a walk
That’ll do it. He has been up in DP opportunities.

Leyland asked the umps to talk about it, and they went and watched the tape
I can see how Leyland was unsure with how it bounced. Replays though clearly showed the ball out of play.

Home run review
Leyland asked umps to confer, they conferenced and reviewed it.
Replays on FSD clearly showed the home run and was ruled as such.

This has been quite a bipolar road trip
If someone told you last Thursday that the Tigers would have a .500 road trip, you’d be happy, right?
http://tigersamateuranalysis.blogspot.com
by SabreRoseTiger on Sep 10, 2009 5:29 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
not really
I would have expected to sweep the Royals and steal one from the Rays for a 4-2 trip
And yet, we end up gaining ground on the Twins, so that’s good….right?

It's sad
that at the start of this road trip I would have signed on to 3-3 and maintaining a lead in the division of atleast 5 games. But this just feels dirty.

bad as this feels....
We are still 6 losses ahead of one and 7 ahead of the other. Still, there is nothing good about this. The old offensive problems are back in force, and we just gave up way too many runs to a last place team. Bad signs everywhere.

The Tigers scored 10 runs in this series
That’s nothing to get excited about, but it’s enough that they should have taken 2 of 3. But our pitching staff gave up NINETEEN runs.

tuesday was the bad one.
That was one we just gave away. Today you could say we hit balls at guys, etc. Yesterday we got outpitched. But tuesday we just gave them the damn game.
by rook34 on Sep 10, 2009 5:38 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions 0 recs
you could say the same about today
Washburn didn’t exactly impress, but he gave up 3 runs through 5, the Tigers offense came back with 2 in the the 5th and 6th to take the lead….and then Miner promptly give it right back…which makes a liar out of my 7th inning lead though below, woops.

Really, with the exception of Saturday, Lyon's the only one who's been pitching well?
I understand pitchers go into slumps same as hitters, and that’s to be expected and it’s fine, but it’s a problem when EVERY pitcher goes into a slump at once.

Especially galling was the fact that in games 1 and 3, Tigers had a 7th inning lead
and the bullpen came in and got blown up

again, bad as this feels....
If we come out and win tomorrow, the mood changes completely. But this is beginning to show the signs of a horrible streak at the wrong time.
by rook34 on Sep 10, 2009 5:43 PM EDT via mobile reply actions 0 recs
There is one saving grace, though...
The Tigers are going home. If ANYTHING will turn things around, it’s that. If that doesn’t do it, then I’m out of ideas.
