Tigers Win! Game 142 Afterglow Thread

When is the last time the Tigers jumped out to an early lead on a team?  Well, they did just that this afternoon versus the Blue Jays, led by two RBIs from Gerald Laird.  Mix that with some good starting pitching from Rick Porcello, and that could win a team some ballgames.

The only question - a big one, given what's happened in recent games - was whether or not Detroit's bullpen could make that lead hold up.  Some big insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, courtesy of Aubrey Huff and Brandon Inge, were certainly helpful.

The long Tiger Town nightmare is over!  The losing streak is over at five games.  Find somebody to hug.  Enjoy a meal in good company.

More later this evening.  Thanks for spending part of your Sunday afternoon here!

Curse you Scott Kazmir

Why must you suck so hard?

He's doomed.

He should have given up six runs already.

Don't worry, I didn't get it either

I thought she was watching a replay of the play he made on Granderson’s bunt or something.

I tried to watch that game, but the FSW feed had sound issues and was really, really quiet...

…and I absolutely refuse to watch Hawk, so I turned on the Dodgers game.

beckjason Bonine to start Wed for #tigers and for rest of season. Galarraga scratched, will pitch out of bullpen.

by explosivo2k2 on Sep 13, 2009 4:40 PM EDT reply actions

Probably

At least Armando’s made three very good starts against the Royals this year. The elbow inflammation must’ve flared up again this morning. But why would you scratch someone with an injury and then pitch him out of the bullpen? That doesn’t make much sense.

oh yeah

magglio!!!!! his average climbing..but lets have less double plays and more extra base hits………

by amazenhazen2 on Sep 13, 2009 5:04 PM EDT reply actions

The White Sox have a weird offense

Most of their guys have fairly low batting averages, but almost all of them can hit home runs and get lots of extra-base hits.

They are built entirely for the Launching Pad.

They are trying to change that, by getting Rios, getting rid of Thome, Dye, and possibly Konerko. Their number one target for the offseason is Figgins.

by rook34 on Sep 13, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions

I'd love for the Tigers to get Figgins

But I think he’ll be too expensive. If we can’t get him, hopefully the White Sox do not.

by SabreRoseTiger on Sep 13, 2009 5:18 PM EDT up reply actions

No way we can afford him.

Hopefully someone else jumps in or the Angels overpay to keep him.

Okay, why is the Rangers game not on yet?

And if there’s a rain delay, why isn’t it telling me there’s a rain delay?

Huge at bat in the Angels game.

Sox have ’em at 1st and 2nd….two out. Castro up. Kazmir battling.

by rook34 on Sep 13, 2009 5:15 PM EDT reply actions

Big, big out for the Angels.

Kazmir struggled but gave his team a chance and got out of several jams. Sox should be up three or four runs.

by rook34 on Sep 13, 2009 5:18 PM EDT reply actions

Hopefully the Angels can help us out.

Heading off to Soldier Field to catch the U2 show. See everyone tomorrow! JV back on the hill.

Magic number 15 with Twins 14 with Soxs

If the Tigers play 10-10 the rest of the way with 11 home kc3min4 chi3 9 away cle3 min3 chi3
The Twins will have to play 15-4 .789 with 9 home cle3 det3 kc3 10 away chi3 kc3 det4
The Soxs will have to go 15-3 .833 9 home det3 kc3 min3 9 road sea3 cle3 det3
I have some land in Florida that you can buy near a swamp, if you think the Twins or Sox have a chance!
I predict the Tigers win the divison by 4 games or 5 games if Morneau is really injured.

It's looking like a near certainty that we'll be playing the Yankees in the ALDS now if we make the postseason

Guess I’d prefer a 5 game series against them instead of 7, it would be key to take at least one of the first two games in NY like 06 though

Game 1: Verlander v. Sabathia
Game 2: Jackson v. Burnett
Game 3: Porcello v. Pettite
if Game 4: Verlander v. Sabathia
if Game 5: Jackson v. Burnett

I’d give us a slight edge with starting pitching, but everything else to the Yankees. I assume they’ll move Joba back into the pen for the ALDS, which coupled with Hughes and Rivera, would make their pitching quite formidable at the back end of games. Our offense would need to get to them early and our bullpen would need to be as solid as they’ve ever been this season.

I still don't like that

President, Vice President and Secretary of the Casey Crosby Fanclub.

by David Tokarz on Sep 13, 2009 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Well if the Rangers go down by the hand of King Felix tonight...

They’ll be 4 games behind Boston and 6 behind the Angels with 20 games left. Not impossible, but not probable considering the way the two teams ahead of them have been playing as of late. I’ve been pulling for the Rangers for awhile now, but the more I think about it the more I can see why it’d be better to play the Yankees in the ALDS.
