Tigers Make the Cover of SI: Jinx or Affirmation?

Mack Avenue Tigers already beat us to this, and I know there's already been some discussion about this in the comments of our last post, but I think it's still worth posting here. Have you seen the cover of this week's Sports Illustrated?

What do you think?  Do you believe in The SI Cover Jinx?  Is this affirmation for a unexpectedly successful season?  Or is this more of the "sports can save a dying city" stuff that we heard during the NCAA Final Four and Stanley Cup Finals?

If we lose the division

We’re going after SI’s office.

I'd like to think it's just a coincidence

From the article that’s cited in the wikipedia link you gave: "in investigating virtually all of SI’s 2,456 covers, we found 913 “jinxes” — a demonstrable misfortune or decline in performance following a cover appearance roughly 37.2 percent of the time."

That's 37.2% too much.

Come on, you’re a baseball fan. SUPERSTITIONS! I say we hunt down every copy of SI and burn it.

All joking aside regarding the jinx

that maybe my all-time favorite SI cover. That is a beautiful shot.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

Reminds me of a Simpsons moment.

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm.
Lisa: That’s specious reasoning, Dad.
Homer: Thank you, dear.
Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers* away.
Homer: Oh, how does it work?
Lisa: It doesn’t work.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: It’s just a stupid rock.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don’t see any tigers around, do you?
[Homer thinks of this, then pulls out some money]
Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.
[Lisa refuses at first, then takes the exchange]

N.B. * Detroit tigers?

given my current state of tiger mind...

I was not pleased for jinx-related issues.I will withold judgment until I read the article. I hope it is not the standard lazy story about detroit.

They are 1-1 when I have gone to
Comerica. O-1 at Fenway. 0-1 at the Cell. Perhaps I should not go to the Cell twice this weekend.

Beautiful Cover.

It’s rare to have that little text on an SI cover. But seriously, if we lose this thing, I will forever believe in the SI jinx.

I for one, can't wait to get this in the mail.

Haven’t you had enough of those goddamn Yankees getting all that attention in that rag?
