Game 153 Overflow Thread

Eddie Bonine couldn't have been much better for the Tigers, with one out left in the sixth inning.  He didn't allow a hit until hanging a change-up to Gordon Beckham for a two-run homer.

But with Detroit's lineup not being able to do much against Jake Peavy, it felt like the Tigers were walking a tightrope.  Can they do something against the White Sox bullpen?

White Sox 2, Tigers 0 going to the bottom of the seventh inning.

I don't like seeing a good start wasted by crap bats.

These Tiger bats, they can be so frustrating.

A slight correction.

So, I have a question

When the crowd gave the standing ovation after the home run, were they saluting Bonine or Beckham?

ROY

According to Hawk, the ONLY ROY candidates are Beckham, Andrew Bailey, and Nolan Reimold, and “Beckham’s the only one that’s been in a pennant race.” I had to gag when he said that.

But the offense's inconsistency lost many a game that probably should have been won.

Overall it is the offense’s woes that have been more troubling and given us more trouble.

by 13194013 on Sep 25, 2009 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

yup

If the offense were even slightly more productive, the pitching would have had a little bit of margin for error so when they slipped, it wouldn’t have been as serious. Every slip has been magnified.

Fact: This is NOT the first time the Tigers have lost a game in which they gave up only two hits

It happened against Seattle. Armando one-hit the Mariners and pitched into the eighth inning with a 1-0 lead when he walked someone and Bobby Seay came in and gave up a two-run homer to Russell Branyan.

I don't watch a lot of TV outside of Tigers games

Although I watched Flashforward this morning, and I found it rather intriguing, Detroit reference or no.

The Royals have actually out-hit the Twins

Though somewhere the Twins did get six more hits. For a while it was six runs on two hits. I’m surprised the Twins have walked as many times as they have. They’re a “put the ball in play” kind of team. They don’t strike out much, but they also don’t seem to walk that much either.

Freddy Garcia and Dan Hudson are not Jake Peavy

But it’s not going to matter if the offense doesn’t get the memo that there is a ****ing series to be played.

Daniel Hudson did not pitch badly against the Twins, though

Outside of one inning where he lost the strikezone.

That's encouraging.

Bottom line, these idiots better get their shit together.

We'll write up the memo for your signature

I’m sure it will be a game changer for all

Do it

What are you gonna boot me for? Not being blindly optimistic?

by Epic89 on Sep 25, 2009 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

no, it's nothing like that

It’s one thing to point out a bad play or even a bad streak/ season.
But most of us assume that the team is doing their best (even if their best isn’t good enough). we can question judgment or execution of a play
but you seem to be questioning their character and it’s out not what this thread is about and I think that’s what people are reacting to.
I’m pretty sure that the 30+ guys that are wearing the D have a good understanding of what they need to do right now. I’m pretty sure that I don’t so I just have to watch.
either way, it’s no big deal to me. enjoy the games, that’s what it’s all about

by murrajo on Sep 25, 2009 11:21 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

thank you

that is what I’ve been trying to say all along. I’m not trying to attack anybody or be disgustingly optimistic! I know we fuck up a lot! I’m the first person to say we’re “the worst first place team in baseball”. I am generally a very sarcastic person who is far from seeing the glass half full – but with baseball, I try not to be.

I only berate them because I care so much

I’m panicking, afraid they’re gonna **** up; again. I don’t appreciate them making this hard on themselves, it’s really pretty frustrating. I consider myself a diehard fan, but I might have to rethink that if they blow this; my heart can only take so much.

And if anyone is gonna get on my case for not having hope, what exactly is your rationale? I believed after Maggs’ shot in the ALCs, and heading into 2008; it didn’t work out so well. So I’m gonna have my doubts ‘til the Twins are mathematically eliminated, and I’m justified.

I’m too radical, but I’m not alone. I’ve got no beef with anybody on here, we’re all fans of the same team. Someone we all just don’t take the time to hear each other out.

Just yell those thoughts at your TV like the rest of us

lord knows what my neighbors must think when someone grounds into a double play.

by MackAveKurt on Sep 25, 2009 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Only time I yelled tonight was after Dye’s catch. I’m sure the neighbors heard though, lol.

I am as nervous as you are, dude

I just try to see the good things out of each game, even if it’s a loss, because it keeps me from getting too down on it and taking the baseball crankiness outside of the baseball forum. I have friends that voice their hate for the game most of the season because it affects my mood (which can already be up and down as it is!). I see every time when maggs hits a single or grounds into a DP instead of hitting it over the fence, I see all the inge K’s (god love him, he’s my tiger), I see the wild pitches by ryan perry even though I think he’s hot as hell (ha).. it’s just easier on most of us to at least attempt to be positive when possible.

Can't fault you for that approach.

I’ve just seen the team screw up too many times to be like that myself. I’ll always be expecting the worst.

I came back just to inform you all

I just burped and hiccuped at the same time whilst lying down, and felt like I was gonna die for a second.

I figured it was similar to what the Tigers felt this evening.

There should be a word like that.

Since vurp has a word, that needs one too.

Well, tomorrow it is Scott Baker against Lenny DiNardo

Um…yeah.

But they still have Greinke on Sunday.

To those who are expecting them to rock Garcia tomorrow...

He’s gone at least 6 innings each of his last 6 starts, allowing no more than 3 runs in each of them.

by Epic89 on Sep 25, 2009 11:23 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wasn't expecting them to rock Garcia

All I said was that Nate’s gonna have to find a way to outpitch him.

So let me get this straight....today...

my car was stolen. The Tigers lost. The Royals morphed back into the Royals. The Twins will not lose.

Tomorrow has to be better. Hopefully all on those fronts.

Tomorrow belongs to us.

I am considering not going to the Cell tomorrow night. Tonight was about all I could take.

that sucks (obviously)

you’re right, tomorrow has to be better than that

You know, we used to get some math from someone (can't remember who)...

…after every game saying what the Twins would have to do if we play .500 the rest of the way. What happened to that?

If they never lose, it won't matter.

One more thing from this hideous day. My friend basically had to restrain me when a jackass in front of me refuted my criticism of Hawk by saying “He’s the greatest announcer ever. How could you possibly hate him?” Seriously, thought about jumping directly over the chair.
