Game 153 Overflow Thread
Eddie Bonine couldn't have been much better for the Tigers, with one out left in the sixth inning. He didn't allow a hit until hanging a change-up to Gordon Beckham for a two-run homer.
But with Detroit's lineup not being able to do much against Jake Peavy, it felt like the Tigers were walking a tightrope. Can they do something against the White Sox bullpen?
White Sox 2, Tigers 0 going to the bottom of the seventh inning.

I don't like seeing a good start wasted by crap bats.
These Tiger bats, they can be so frustrating.

There was a game in '06, I think, and it was at the cell
I think either Kenny Rogers or Jeremy Bonderman gave up four unearned runs and lost 4-0. I don’t even know why I am remembering this, cuz I definitely did NOT see that game.

Lets see if they show up to work tomorrow. With a former Tiger on the mound for CWS, they’re kinda due to again not show up for work

I’m actually amazed their record is as good as it is. Beginning of the season I wouldn’t have expected a winning season, even – I certainly didn’t expect the pitching to be as effective as it has.

But the offense's inconsistency lost many a game that probably should have been won.

yup
If the offense were even slightly more productive, the pitching would have had a little bit of margin for error so when they slipped, it wouldn’t have been as serious. Every slip has been magnified.

Fact: This is NOT the first time the Tigers have lost a game in which they gave up only two hits
It happened against Seattle. Armando one-hit the Mariners and pitched into the eighth inning with a 1-0 lead when he walked someone and Bobby Seay came in and gave up a two-run homer to Russell Branyan.

The Royals have actually out-hit the Twins
Though somewhere the Twins did get six more hits. For a while it was six runs on two hits. I’m surprised the Twins have walked as many times as they have. They’re a “put the ball in play” kind of team. They don’t strike out much, but they also don’t seem to walk that much either.

What are you gonna boot me for? Not being blindly optimistic?
by Epic89 on Sep 25, 2009 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no, it's nothing like that
It’s one thing to point out a bad play or even a bad streak/ season.
But most of us assume that the team is doing their best (even if their best isn’t good enough). we can question judgment or execution of a play
but you seem to be questioning their character and it’s out not what this thread is about and I think that’s what people are reacting to.
I’m pretty sure that the 30+ guys that are wearing the D have a good understanding of what they need to do right now. I’m pretty sure that I don’t so I just have to watch.
either way, it’s no big deal to me. enjoy the games, that’s what it’s all about

thank you
that is what I’ve been trying to say all along. I’m not trying to attack anybody or be disgustingly optimistic! I know we fuck up a lot! I’m the first person to say we’re “the worst first place team in baseball”. I am generally a very sarcastic person who is far from seeing the glass half full – but with baseball, I try not to be.
by allikazoo on Sep 25, 2009 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I only berate them because I care so much
I’m panicking, afraid they’re gonna **** up; again. I don’t appreciate them making this hard on themselves, it’s really pretty frustrating. I consider myself a diehard fan, but I might have to rethink that if they blow this; my heart can only take so much.
And if anyone is gonna get on my case for not having hope, what exactly is your rationale? I believed after Maggs’ shot in the ALCs, and heading into 2008; it didn’t work out so well. So I’m gonna have my doubts ‘til the Twins are mathematically eliminated, and I’m justified.
I’m too radical, but I’m not alone. I’ve got no beef with anybody on here, we’re all fans of the same team. Someone we all just don’t take the time to hear each other out.

I am as nervous as you are, dude
I just try to see the good things out of each game, even if it’s a loss, because it keeps me from getting too down on it and taking the baseball crankiness outside of the baseball forum. I have friends that voice their hate for the game most of the season because it affects my mood (which can already be up and down as it is!). I see every time when maggs hits a single or grounds into a DP instead of hitting it over the fence, I see all the inge K’s (god love him, he’s my tiger), I see the wild pitches by ryan perry even though I think he’s hot as hell (ha).. it’s just easier on most of us to at least attempt to be positive when possible.
