Tigers Win! Game 154 Afterglow
How often does a game turn around like that?
The Tigers fell behind 5-0 after four innings, and it was looking bleak. Nate Robertson was looking like the pitcher we all feared he really was. And when was this team going to score a run again?
But then something clicked. Detroit began to chip away with a Miguel Cabrera solo homer in the fifth. And that apparently broke the seal, because from there, the runs and hits just kept coming. 11 more runs and 17 more hits, to be exact.
Tigers beat the White Sox 12-5! Full recap to come. But for now, enjoy the afterglow... and maybe, just maybe, a turning point for this team.

totally unrelated to Tigers but...
Ichiro was ejected for the first time ever tonight. Apparently he disagreed with the strike zone after being called out on 3 pitches, so he used his bat to draw a diagram for the ump. I think that is a great way to get tossed.
lol
I’d expect nothing less than creativity from Ichiro in getting his first ejection.

Magglio has been ejected three times in his career, but not since 2003.
Justin Verlander has been ejected once (I remember that game. It was against the Indians in ‘07, but he wasn’t pitching in that game).
I thought this was interesting: Pudge (who is not mild-mannered) was ejected once in 1993, and then wasn’t ejected again until 2001. However, he has been ejected at least once every year since 2001 (though he’s gotta get a move on if he’s gonna continue that trend this year).

There was a guy who graduated in my class who everyone called “Trip.” We all knew it was a nickname, but it wasn’t until all our full names were read at graduation that we realized his first and middle names were “Wesley Delwyn” and he was a Third. true
I was just thinking the other day, where this team was in 2003, and now this is their second real pennant race. They have gone from almost historically bad craptacular-ness to a respectable team, with regular winning records and everything. When I thought about the number of teams that descend to levels of horrible and never, never get out (Pittsburgh Pirates), it’s pretty amazing that the team has actually built something worth watching instead of staying bad.

So often fans (and maybe management, too) just kind of assume that after a team is bad for a while, they get high draft picks and develop players and then naturally improve – but so often a team gets bad and just sticks there, sometimes for a very, very long time. To actually get out of such a deep hole is an accomplishment.
The Tigers have their weak spots and ups and downs, but the team is respectable now and far from being a joke. It’s something that a lot of fans would really like to see in their teams and haven’t yet.

just don't get my started on their hockey "coverage"
I could rant for days on that patronizing collection of insipid bullet points that they spew out so infrequently.

And Mike Green was a worthy nominee for the Norris Trophy. Because he scored so many goals.
MIKE FREAKING GREEN? HE BARELY PLAYED GOOD ENOUGH DEFENSE TO BE NOMINATED FOR THE SELKE, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! JUST ADMIT THAT THE MEDIA DIDN’T WANT TO VOTE FOR LIDSTROM BECAUSE THEY WERE BORED BECAUSE HE WAS SO CONSISTENTLY GOOD AND HAD THE AUDACITY TO NOT BE BORN CANADIAN AND PLAY FOR A GOOD CANADIAN TEAM, OR ACTUALLY HIT SOMEONE ONCE IN A WHILE BECAUSE HE IS SO SMART HE DOESN’T NEED TO! AND GETS @$%^^$## SUSPENDED FOR BEING INJURED AND SKIPPING THE ALL-STAR @$%^&## GAME!!!!!
For starters.

I was kind of irritated about the Norris too
I thought Mark Streit earned a little consideration for his work on the Islanders.

I was at the game tonight...
Us Tigers fans were cheering louder than the Sox fans! We had chants going through the whole park!
I heard you on the radio!
We listened to AM 670 Chicago in the car, and you’d have thought it was Detroit radio.

I could hear how loud the Tigers fans were on the television
Way to represent the visitors.

maybe the Yankees clinched a playoff spot
and the Cardinals clinched the division?

I also wore my Granderson jersey to the game tonight...
and I’ve come to the conclusion that’s why he broke out of his slump.
good a reason as any
I broke out my Throw Strikes shirt for the first time since the Loons season ended. :)

Did I see you trying to catch a wild pitch that bounced into the seats?
There was someone in a Granderson jersey who went for it and then was very disappointed that he didn’t get it.

I can take or leave Tiger Woods...
but that commericial where he tries to pay with the giant check is funny.
I like the announcers
pretending like he can’t see them until he gets peeved that he’s being stalked. :)

So they tease it again and go to another commercial;
Plus the announcer sounded like he was trying to make up the tease as he went.

But no way do they know the stats like you do. If you listen closely, I’ll bet you can hear their airheaded giggles through the computer.

that was pretty bleep-infested
I can see why, though. Since he wanted to actually play the major league players against the Tigers in an attempt to make the pennant race no easier than it had to be, he has to be ticked off that he might have actually gotten better effort from the minor leaguers.

middle-aged white men in suits
Should never, never try to be cool by using words like “sick” to mean good, like the kids do. It doesn’t work with a tie.
And with Ozzie’s frustrated bleeps echoing in my ears, I am off – and hoping for more bleeps tomorrow, too. :)

WOO!
AND the Wolverine’s won…Penn State lost…tis a good day indeed.
Now if only Ohio State, the Twins and the Yankees had lost..I think it would have been nearly perfect
Twins can't figure out how to score less than 8 or 9 runs.
It’s not so bad that OSU won. As a Michigan fan hoping UM stay undefeated (a stretch, I know), I’d like OSU to also win out until the big one so that a win over the Buckeyes has some value in the voters eyes.
330+ comments, this has probably already been said, but......
If all of the games are like this from here on out, I’m going to be exhausted come that certain part of the year where 22 teams stop playing…….
