Don Kelly Called Up, Along With Armando Galarraga

As already mentioned in the comments of our last post, (and reported by Jason Beck), Don Kelly has been added to the Tigers' roster.  He was called up from Triple-A Toledo along with Armando Galarraga, who's recovered from his elbow inflammation and will start tonight for Jarrod Washburn.

Kelly hit 250/.308/.354 in 19 games with the Tigers through most of June and early July.  With the Mud Hens, he batted .331/.404/.465 with six homers and 40 RBIs.  He also played virtually every position on the field, so it'll be interesting to see if he's used anywhere else besides left field.

Since Kelly wasn't on the 40-man roster, Jeff Larish was also called up and then added to the 60-day disabled list.  He's recovering from wrist surgery.

ARRRRMANDO

Supposedly looked good in his last start in Toledo. No matter what… it’s better than Washburn.

healthy is better than hurt

Whoever isn’t fully functional, I don’t want on the mound. With a starter near the end of the rotation, that’s what I’m looking for more than anything else.

Baseball on the TeeVee

Chicago leads 3 -0

But even more exciting — I found an audio feed of Meecheegan football, complete with Hungry Howie commercials. I am awash in nostalgia and savoring a 24 – 0 lead.

Did they schedule a REAL cupcake to start this time?

Wasn’t it the Wolverines who lost to Appalachian State? Or was that the Spartans?

(I don’t follow college football.)

It was the Wolverines two years ago.

And living in NC, believe me I heard about it.

And most teams schedule a “cupcake” for the first game. Big state school teams are always under pressure to play an instate team so a Western or Eastern can share in the revenue. So they’re damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

And now I will return to baseball. And the only reason I want the White Sox to win is to make the wild card easier for Texas. With their fielding, they are no threat to make a run at us.

I saw the last two minutes of that game

Then I saw Wake get trampled by BC. Bad day.

thx

I knew it was one of those two schools, but I couldn’t remember.

And the Fox announcers are trying their damndest to jinx the Chicago pitcher, who is currently throwing one of those extra-special things that are really an accomplishment for a pitcher to throw. :)

You mean a PERFECT GAME?

Boy, I hope he throws a PERFECT GAME. That would be so exciting. Then Hawk Harrelson would get to rave about another Sock who threw a PERFECT GAME.

that's it

They were even asking the manager about if he was using the word “perfect” in the dugout.

OOPS

Brain fart – it was the pitching coach. Ozzie’s comments would have been a bleepfest of epic proportions.

(I’m trying to do three things at once, and divided attention makes for crappy typing. Sorry for the unintentional misdirection.) :(

AJ out at second trying to steal. Heh heh heh.

Normally I hate both Sox approximately equally, but I like Tim Wakefield so I want Boston to win this time.

Gavin Floyd is perfect through five.

I always thought his greatest chance was against us.

brewers are losing

it’s like they know which game I care least about and give it to me.

or maybe it’s that the brewers are two hours from green bay. either way.

Does Fox realize that Buerhle isn't actually pitching in this game?

God they are so freaking horrible. :(

I just ruined the G$ thing for myself

I now read it as “G string” b/c of the Excel functions I have been reading.

/ that goes with Huff’s thong though, so it all fits.

Magic Number 22 Win Streak at 5

Tigers have only 27 games remaining if they go 14-13 for a 88-74 with 14 home and 13 away
The Twins will have to go 20-7 .741 with 12 home and 15 away to tie
The Sox will have to go 20-5 .800 with 13 home and 12 away to tie
Bring on the Yankees!!!
