Game 136 Post-Gamer: Afterglow or Shame?
We'll have a full recap later tonight, but until then, you can chat about today's Tigers-Rays game right here. Are you basking in afterglow or wallowing in shame?
So that Wade Davis kid looked pretty good, eh? No wonder Tampa felt they could trade Edwin Jackson last winter. Meanwhile, Jackson pitched pretty well against his former team.
Did the Tigers do it again to that Rays bullpen? Or did Evan Longoria find yet another way to beat Detroit?
More later this evening. Thanks for spending part of a fun weekend here!

I could gaze on that for quite some time.
Those numbers just make me giggle with happiness. I’m giddy! GIDDY, I tell you!!!

yes
Excellent jusdegment based ont he previous games and how the commentariat picked up the pace once the Tigers started their extremely late inning comeback.

That right there
was the single biggest series we will play this year, in my opinion.
I love this team.
I don't have a signature.
No, don't say that.
It’s not over until we’re in the playoffs.
However, we are running. Fast.
I don't have a signature.
Rays plummeted off the cliff.

Here we go. To make it official.

HOLY BAJEZUS WE WON!!!
I was on the road… missed everything past the 8th inning.
President, Vice President and Secretary of the Casey Crosby Fanclub.
Biggest mistake...thank you Madden
Was his decision to take our Cormier, who was in a GREAT rhythm and dealing.
Balfour came in, walked Cabbi and then trouble started.
Madden went by the stats: Cabbit was great against Cormier, bad against Balfour.
Lesson: Sometime you go with the game’s rhythm (like Leyland does) and not
by looking at numbers, which are insensitive to what is going on in the heat of a battle
too iffy, though
I’m happy with some things being unquantifiable. A completely deterministic universe is boring.

The second that baseball becomes deterministic...
…I’ll be up on top of the tallest building in town, looking for a place to jump. But I don’t forsee that happening, ever… after all, I watched Game 1 of the ’88 World Series and, well, I rest my case.
Joe Madden plays it deterministically
He is the stat master. And it cost him this series
Monty Burns played it deterministically
…and Homer’s HBP (pinch-hitting for Strawberry) won the game for Springfield!
I'll be on the way down with you

Ramon Castro homers for White Sox
off of Billy Wagner!
Red sox still lead 3-1
so does ballfour still have a job tomorrow
Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider!
Well, I tried to find a picture of a penguin with a broom, but I couldn't find one
You’ll have to settle for a penguin vacuum cleaner

I so love the Shedd.
I went there a few years ago when my sister was still living in the area, before she left her job for graduate school, and spent a lot of time there – quite a bit of it eye-to-eye with the Komodo monitor named Faustus they had on display at the time. Impressive, impressive animal.
I love how the penguin next to it looks so protective.

Much to my surprise...
…teachers get in free! There are some seriously ugly fish in there, though. In the best way possible.
that's a great thing for them to do, though
Places like that are such fabulous places to get kids (and adults) excited about science, that it makes sense to really emphasize the educational mission by teacher and student perks. Especially now when so many schools are cutting back on field trips because of the economy.

Hahaha oh Jim
“This game is over…there’s some temporary excitement when you win a game like that, there should be, but it’s very temporary.”
Disagree with Kmann about this being the most important series
Not to call you out, my friend. I just didn’t think anyone would notice if I posted this response way up there.
I don’t think there was any series more important than the one in late July, when the White Sox had just tied the Tigers, and we were wondering if we’d come out of the series still in first place, and the Tigers won the first three out of the 4 game set against Chicago, including sweeping a doubleheader. This team really hasn’t looked back since, keeping the lead pretty steady through August, and now stomping on the accelerator in September.

I'm not playing the middle here but...
I agree that the CWS series was huge and I think the team turned a corner that week.
The thing about this series is that they appear to be starting to play like they mean to win the whole thing- not just the AL Central. To win this road series with come-from-behind scoring again and again is just huger than huge.
I think they are both important
And equally so, because they come at such different times in the season. In July, it was a series that pointed out the Tigers could actually get into the playoffs – this series is indicative that not only can they make the playoffs, but they may be able to actually do some damage when they get there.
I don’t think either is more important than the other, but they are each crucial at different points in the season. It’s such a long season there isn’t just one turning point, I don’t believe.
"For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else." -- Winston S. Churchill
I was seeing importance as playoff odds importance.
This series could create enough “heat” for us to win playoff games, and in that sense, I consider it at least equally important to the CWS series.
I attended the third game in that series. That was a good wake-up call. This just looks awfully important to me at the moment.
I don't have a signature.
shocker
Inge player of the game. :)

You know I think I should go by a lotto ticket
I feel like I’m good luck today, at least with baseball. I turn on games and people hit multi-run homers.

Well...
It could have been raining supermodels here, which would’ve made the day a bit better. But, I’ll take today any day.
What a game and what a team. This has been a wonderful weekend.
"For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else." -- Winston S. Churchill
yes
It’s fun to watch them having fun playing. You can tell they don’t ever think they are out of a game, either – they always felt that way at home, but if they can develop that same confidence on the road …

Sums it up.
I was telling my girlfriend on Friday that was exactly what this series was about. Believing they are a good team home or away. Mission Accomplished.
finally home but I gotta power nap then meet up with a friend.
I definitely plan on watching the last few innings of this game later!
what a game and what a team
Time to think about what to make for dinner and toss together a cake since my parents are grilling tomorrow. Have a nice Labour Day (especially if you have it off, but even if you are working). Have a good evening, everyone.
And GO TIGERS!
"For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else." -- Winston S. Churchill
Well now that I'm in an awesome mood
I’m off to hang out with some friends—we have to make the most of the precious free time we have before classes start. Happy Labor Day everybody, and of course, go Tigers :)
To think I almost blew off this game to do yard work.
I know — we have an off day tomorrow. If I’m lucky, it’ll rain : )
Holy crap.
I caught wind of the score but couldn’t watch the game. What a come back. The Tigers just buried the Rays’ hope.
A sweep on the road? Excellent.
i am loathe to compare this season to 06....
But we are playing a hell of a lot better in september 09 than september 06. Just sayin.
