Orlando Hudson
The Detroit Free Press is reporting the Tigers are interested in signing Orlando Hudon. My thinking is mixed on the topic as he could be a helpful addition to the team but what about Scott Sizemore?
I am not a stat person nor do I care to be but I liked what Orlando Husdon did for the Blue Jays, Dodgers, and others.
Do you guys like the move?
What type of contract is Hudson expecting?
Could he help the Tigers?

Jeez
A player who hits for pretty good average, gets on base at a very decent clip and has above average pop for second base… sounds like Sizemore a bit.
My main concern is salary- I’d prefer to spend on a SP or a CF.

Our offense is going to be pretty weak this year regardless of signing Hudson. Whatever he wants we probably could have used to help re-sign Polanco.I would personally like us to use that money to land Pods, and watch him burn Ozzie and the Sux next year.

That piece (link) was a complete piece of hackery by the freep and shouldn’t be given the time of day. That wasn’t a byline story, it was basically a blog post.
Reports have said the Tigers are interested in having him replace Placido Polanco at second
What reports? The Yahoo! source they quoted also wrote “reports …”
Who’s reporting this interest?
USA Today wrote it would make sense for the Tigers to pursue Hudson because they don’t have a second baseman.
This is a telephone game.

The people reporting the story, as they keep mentioning
Are themselves. That’s the biggest problem with believing any of the hot stove stories is that anybody can be considered a source, and as soon as a “source” is mentioned, everyone points to “reports” as if every “report” is credible.

We are getting off track
I am less concerned about source compared to what it means for the Tigers.
Does it make sense for the Tigers to sign Hudson??
I think if he can be had for a reasonable contract it is worth the risk.
It does not make sense to pursue him after not offering Polanco arbitration
They said they didn’t offer arbitration to Polanco because they weren’t prepared to pay if he accepted it. Hudson was a Type A free agent (also not offered arbitration) coming off a similar (but better) year to Polanco’s. He’ll probably get similar money to what Polanco would have got, and he’s probably currently holding out for the kind of multi-year offer Polanco got.
If he caves, sure it would make sense from the win now perspective and I don’t see it as a risk. He’s a solid ballplayer. But if the move was made with his mentoring Sizemore in mind, then you’re going to have a problem because the backup middle infielder roster slot is already owned by Santiago.
Overall, I just don’t think this is in the Tigers’ plans.

No way
I think the Tigers are intent on promoting from within for the next year or two until “the contracts” are off the books. If you’re not going to promote Sizemore, who has proven the ability to produce in the minors, then you’re never going to promote.
As dull as it may be in January, this is actually the perfect spot for non-action. If Sizemore struggles, Santiago can play 2B at a respectable level and the team would just need to find a decent utility middle-infielder.
If the team is looking to spend (and I’m guessing that Hudson commands a 2 year deal at about 5M per year), I’d rather see that money put into the ’pen or a lefty OF/DH type.
No need to find a MI
Promote Dlugach.

I'm fine with it
but only if it’s fow the right price.
It would mean . . .
. . . that the Tigers changed their minds about Sizemore, for no apparent reason, other than being hitless for 2010 so far.
Sizemore is tearing it up,
in winter league, but then again so is Wells, Ramirez, Santiago. and Fien. All could be moot as I remember them doing pretty well last year also….

Sizemore . . .
. . . isn’t tearing up the winter league right now—he’s recovering from a broken leg, although he’s expected to be ready on time for Spring Training. He certainly hasn’t any hits, (or ABs) in 2010 yet.
As expected, just a telephone game. Jason Beck reports there’s nothing to the “rumors.”
