Lexus ad?
Not quite sure why an ad on this site just popped up for Lexus asking me to build my next car online. If I could even afford a Lexus (which I can’t), why the hell would I want to leave BYB to do that?

OK, show of hands, who here considers VD a good thing?
Granted, that perception probably changes when you’re in a relationship (although, I suppose one could whine about spending an inordinate amount of money on a Hallmark dictated weekend and forced romanticism, where one could get a lot more mileage (and far more credit!) by stretching that romantic effort out over a period of weeks, or months, even). But, a year removed from getting brutally dumped, I’m still looking at this unholy pink-tinged “holiday” with something approaching loathing, where, prior to that particular relationship, it had been an object of mere grumbling acceptance.
Official BYB Juju Consultant...now accepting rally creature applications!
I'll be honest here...
the VD you’re referring to is not the same reference that popped into my head when I first started reading.
With that said. I despise Valentines day because I always spend it alone and all I think about on that day is being alone.
With other holidays you can choose not to celebrate for any number of reasons. Valentines day is the only holiday where the qualification to celebrate is to be extra special to someone else. You don’t celebrate when no one finds you to be extra special.

Strictly speaking, this is "on-topic," but I can't find a good place to ask this
I’ve been gone for a few weeks, so it’s safe to assume things have changed around here since then. As such, what is the general consensus on BYB about Johnny Damon?
I understand the attraction, but I just can't get the defensive shortcomings out of my head
Still, I suppose if we can get him as a one-year stopgap (and a reasonably inexpensive one), it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Now that Verlander’s safely locked up, I feel more tolerant of Damon (I know those two things really have nothing to do with one another).
by SabreRoseTiger on Feb 4, 2010 8:34 PM EST up reply actions
he's middle of the pack essentially with his defense...
meaning he’s either as good or better than Guillen. His actual throwing arm could be something to worry about but I think his offensive ability as well as his ability to lead off make him a very attractive prospect…especially since nobody else wants him the price would be pretty damn cheap.

Twins' lineup:
1. Span, CF
2. Hudson, 2B
3. Mauer, C
4. Morneau, 1B
5. Cuddyer, RF
6. Kubel, LF
7. Thome, DH
8. Hardy, SS
9. Harris, 3B
Let’s just hope their pitching is as bad as it seems on paper, because they’re definitely going to lead the Central in runs scored again.
Ugh
That’s a damn fine lineup. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Hudson/Hardy won’t be able to handle the league switch.

Question
In light of Justin Verlander signing his long-term deal with the Tigers, I have decided to take the gamble and buy the #35 jersey (since I can’t find the T-shirt design I want). My question is this: Do they sell the “authentic” or the “replica” versions at Comerica Park? let me know
I’m already in my friend’s head-to-head league but I think it’d be funny to do auction as well, because I don’t have a clue either.
i want in.
if there’s room, that is. but you ought to make it an NL-only league so NO one on this site is rooting for damage against the Tigers. plus it’s more fun requiring teams to grab backup catchers and long relievers to round out a squad.

I have a hard time getting into the Olympics
I’m more interested in the sports than the human-interest stuff – and since it’s not widely broadcast anyway (NBC is hunting down and destroying anyone who wants to stream and I think they have exclusive rights) I usually keep forgetting about it.
I’ve gotten extremely used to seeing things when I want and how I want, instead of just accepting whatever a television station thinks should be of interest to me. Especially since sometimes I feel like the only woman on the continent pissed off by figure skating (to be more accurate, figure skating commentary – if they would just shut the heck up and let me listen to the music, THEN talk about the slips and trips and let me just enjoy it as a performance, like a dance or piece of music, I’d be less annoyed).
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
What about ice hockey?
I can’t wait to see Team USA… of course, since my Canes are 28th in the league, I don’t have much to look for in the NHL.
President, Vice President and Secretary of the Casey Crosby Fanclub.
by David Tokarz on Feb 13, 2010 3:45 AM EST up reply actions
well ...
Beyond the constant refrain of “don’t get hurt don’t get hurt don’t get hurt don’t get hurt” that will be fun to watch – but that again assumes that I remember when it’s on. :)
I am kind of wondering just how horrible the NBC coverage will be, though – their NHL coverage sucks something awful, and with hockey being a second fiddle to ice dancing and figure skating and such, I wonder how much hockey they will actually broadcast other than the major countries. Also looking forward to yelling at my television every time they mangle another name – “Filppula” shouldn’t be that hard, for example, but some people can’t handle it.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
My cable service no longer has Versus so I don't get to watch hockey.
I refuse to watch NBC’s joke coverage.
extremely wise decision
I watch them on mute only, and only if I have no other online option.
How crappy is it to actually miss a goal – and a game-tying one, too, kind of important – because you didn’t come back from the commercial break soon enough? $^$#$^& amateurs. NBC sucks. :(
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
that reminds me of the world cup
for some reason they went to commercials — THERE ARE NO FRICKEN COMMERCIALS IN SOCCER!!! — during a corner kick being set up and came back to showing a celebration after the goal.
That was a game they put on MSNBC I believe. NBC should be banned from sports.

If you're close to the Canadian border...
…you could always try picking up CTV’s coverage using an antenna. If you’re in southeast Michigan, try channel 42 (it’s still an analogue station; we don’t flip over to digital until 2011). You’ll get plenty of hockey there, I promise.

No kidding, but Boston probably wants to keep it. Especially considering their own first rounder is liable to be higher than they thought at the beginning of the season.

that's more likely available
Get Hall, Fowler, or Seguin (possibly) (depending on the poor Oilers) with Toronto’s pick and sell off their own, pretty good, but not as awesome pick. Upgrade for trading Phil Kessel.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
maybe I'm a jerk
but along with the Nick Punto Day posts at twinkie town, the concept of Kyle Farnsworth starting has also amused me greatly the last couple days.
Sigh. It will be the first time the Tigers see him as a starter, so if precedent holds from last year, he’ll shut us out for seven innings.

I was saying I really hope if he does make the rotation

I will probably get ejected from the park trying to jump the fence and whip his ass myself. I love me some Ramon Santiago <3 … he bat .315 in the Caribbean Series this year. and played great defense. Bring it on Farnsworth…

But I also think he could kick some butt himself quite well if need be. And that would be hilarious.
"While there's life, there's hope." --Cicero
I am still trying to absorb the
fact they are going to start Farnsworth. He was pitiful when he played here, just pitiful. Everyone was booing him off the mound…
Welcome to Detroit, NO sissies allowed
I went to a game about 10 days after the Tigers re-acquired him
He pitched the ninth inning of a blowout (the Tigers won 10-2). He didn’t give up any runs, but he gave up a single and a double (or something like that) to start his inning, and the crowd showed no mercy. I can’t say I was exactly sympathetic.

what are your favorite bands/artists?
Mostly I’m looking for some new stuff to listen too but anything works.
Current frequent plays on my computer/mp3 player include:
Devin Townsend (genius)
Chris Cornell (anything from Soundgarden on, favorite artist of all time)
Beethoven (I’m in love with the Moonlight Sonata)
Explosions in the Sky (gotta love instrumental rock)
Matisyahu
RxBandits (probably my favorite newer band)
theres my little list. What are your guys favorites?

Fun
I like industrial and funk. Nine Inch Nails and Incubus are the current top two (I actually saw them both live this summer). The Gorillaz are good, and Robert Randolph and the Family Band rock something fierce too. If you like indie type stuff, the Duke Spirit is pretty good too (they opened for Incubus). I could make some album suggestions if you’re that desperate.

unlike Baseball (where numbers count) is where personality and indivuality differ from person to person, So tastes vary from gerneration to generation, imo they are one of the best bands ever, from their era and genre of music there were other classic rock bands which followed “Classic Rock” and/or the British Invasion

the beatles are fine
their early stuff was awesome. They had a historical influence. We look back and it sounds like bubble gum pop — which it really was — but it was ground-breaking bubble-gum pop that is still fun to listen to nearly 50 years later. That’s a testament to them.
I think what you end up reacting too is Beatles fans going overboard like they’re the greatest thing in 2000 years or something.

mood depending
I just love The xx. Favorite new band of 2009.
Gaslight Anthem is really great to listen to like a modern-day Springsteen. Still love The National too.
If I’m feeling more mellow, I go with dubstep music from Kode9 or Burial or maybe Thievery Corporation.
But generally speaking you are hard pressed to go wrong with rock from the early-to-mid 90s.

I've always had a soft spot for post-grunge.
Maybe it’s ’90s nostalgia, but I like Toad the Wet Sprocket a lot, embarassingly so. Same goes for Gin Blossoms.
Also, if you’re looking for a kickass ‘90s anthem, you can’t go wrong with “”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KalQfUBA1VM" target="new">First Day Of Spring" by the Gandharvas. (They’re Canadian, so you might not have heard of them; thankfully, there’s YouTube.)
