How does your new 2011, VMart-infused lineup look?
Well, looks like we have a shiney new toy...let's play with it. If I get to play Leyland for a moment, here's my lineup, rotation, and roster fill. Let's see how we compare.
Starting Lineup *
CF - Austin Jackson
2B - Will Rhymes
RF - Ryan Raburn (waiting on help...)
1B - Miguel Cabrera
DH - Victor Martinez**
LF - Casper Wells / Brennan Boesch
SS - Jhonny Peralta
3B - Brandon Inge
C - Alex Avila
*vs. RHP. I think that Avila sits vs. LHP, VMart at C, and a bench player gets time (ex...Santiago at SS, Peralta at DH). You might also platoon Sizemore and Rhymes vs. LHP/RHP.
**Ultimately, I'd much rather see VMart at #3, but I don't think Raburn provides enough protection at #5.
Bench:
2B - Scott Sizemore
SS/3B - Ramon Santiago
OF - Casper Wells / Brennan Boesch
UT - Don Kelly
DL - Carlos Guillen (half season at least)
Rotation:
1 - Verlander
2 - Scherzer
3 - Porcello
4 - Coke
5 - Galarraga
Bullpen:
Miner
Weinhardt
Schlereth
Zumaya
Perry
Benoit
Valverde
Obviously, this isn't a team that's going to win the AL Central (although I like our chances a lot better than a week ago). We still have glaring needs at #3, on defense, in the starting rotation (specifically #3 & 4), and in the front of our bullpen. (It was difficult for me to put the first 3 names in our bullpen, but I lacked choices otherwise.)

Well...
I think V-Mart precludes Maggs being back and I truly believe that there will be at least one more addition to the pitching staff…but assuming Maggs is back:
1.) Jackson – CF
2.) Sizemore – 2B (I know everyone like Rhymes, but I think Sizemore was hurt more that we all thought last year and will come back swinging)
3.) Maggs – RF
4.) Miggy – 1B
5.) V-Mart – DH
6.) Raburn – LF
7.) Peralta – SS
8.) Inge – 3B
9.) Avila – C
Bench:
Boesch – OF
Wells – OF
Santiago – IF
Rhymes – IF
Rotation:
Verlander
Scherzer
Porcello
Galarraga
Coke
Bullpen:
Valverde
Benoit
Perry
Schlereth
Thomas
Weinhardt
Zumaya
Again – I think that there will be an addition to the rotation…someone like Brandon Webb IMO seems like a DD-type signing late in the offseason. Another I wouldn’t mind seeing us sign to a minor-league deal is Zack Duke; who knows what he’ll do out of Pittsburgh? I would think that playing for the Pirates kills you a little on the inside every year.
This is all of course way too early…but will be fun to look at in March.
After reading about V-Mart's splits...
I am now convinced that he will be the regular catcher…which means we’re still gonna get a DH IMO.

I was going to post something like this
Good idea. I’m hoping Maggs is re-signed, but here’s my lineup based on the current roster.
Jackson – CF
Sizemore – 2B
Martinez – DH
Cabrera – 1B
Peralta – SS
Boesch – RF
Inge – 3B
Wells – LF
Avila – C
Bench: Raburn, Rhymes, Santiago, Kelly, Guillen (until he gets hurt, so for about a week)
I’d like to see Coke in the bullpen next year. If he’s in the rotation, one of two things have happened: (a) he’s f***ing awesome, or (b) everyone else sucks. I’d be guessing the latter would be true, so hopefully everyone else is adequate enough that we can leave Coke in the pen.
Not sure Sizemore fits at # 2
I think Sizemore has a lot of up side but not sure about him at # 2 right now.Im thinking lower in the order plus i think he will hit a lot more hrs this year.Would rather have Wells or Boesch bat behind Cabby in your lineup.
I don't think Boesch makes it out of ST
i think if he does it’s as a utility guy and not an everyday RF’er. Unless by some revelation over the winter months he manages to find a bat and a glove…

See
I’m betting Boesch goes for a starting pitcher. It makes sense- deal from depth to shore up a weak spot.

kinda what I was hoping for
Something like Boesch or Strieby + mid level pitcher for a starter
kinda like the last two years
I'd even do Boesch for Luke Hochevear or a trade for a change-of-scenery guy
What’s Homer Bailey doing?

holy crap, yes.
I would very much like the skanky-girl, beard trimmer!
As much as I (and others) like Boesch, I think we should explore the possibly of shipping him out.

I'm still at it.
Adam Wilk, until proven otherwise, vs. your starter. Then I’ll try my other 6 in Spring Training. NO COST!!!

This would've been an awesome idea at the ASB
Unfortunately BB’s second half killed his trade value. I honestly don’t know what to do with him at this point. He’s young enough, and he DID absolutely mash for a couple of months so you don’t want to give up on him. On the other hand, he was beyond bad for 3 months as well. I guess you see how he does in Spring Training and go from there.
Eh
Matt Joyce cooled off a bit after a hot start too. It’s by no means a perfect comparison, but if you’ve got a GM who is more of a traditionalist than a SABR guy, he may be willing to make the swap.

V Mart batting # 3
I think V mart would be better batting # 3 ahead of Cabby and we need a power bat behind Cabby.
momotigers you forgot to put #30 in your line up, dude >:(

Sad, but true
I can just go by what we have today. I think he’d make a good addition though.
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
ok, as long as you're not
excluding him completely. He could be there before its all said and done

Ahh seeing Galarraga's name in the rotation
makes me cringe. The bottom 2 with Avila and Inge is still weak, but much improved, nonetheless.
I’ve always thought AJax could be better suited in the 2 hole, as he wouldn’t feel so much pressure to work counts and cut down his strikeouts

thetigersmight mack atrade for if //of help with the mets they most lickly will want to chanage thier team mack up they have alot highpriced players who donot play well as team and might want to add young cheaper players to thier team and the we know the the tiigers still need a big bat or player who couldaddalot of speed and bat in the 2spot and the mets have those kind of players want would the tigers have to give up maybee boesch // rayburn // and a yonag pwear arm in minnior s and adeal coul be done why would mets mack this kind of trade they have a highpayroll and need to get more of return on thier payroll then did last year . the money would save they could use to try to get more starting pitching sore want the tigers did last year
the current lineup & rotation is SCARY
Desperately need a power bat in the outfield (sorry Raburn fans). A starter is needed as well and I wouldn’t have hurt feelings if they aquired a solid left handed reliever too. I am curious exactly how healthy Miner is? I would have almost rather have kept Bonine for mop-up over Miner.
I'd rather
We put Victor Martinez on 1B for the days Avila is catching, and make Cabrera the DH.
Catchers make horrible designated hitters by design.
Doesn't sound like a bad idea
to keep Miggy fresh. I’ve been wondering about VMart’s ability to play 1B.. Does anyone know how he handles himself over there?

Lineup
CF Jackson
1B Guillen/ Rhymes/ Sizemore
RF Vacant until they get Magglio or a No. 3 hitter
1B Cabrera
DH Martinez
LF Raburn/ Boesch/ Wells
SS Peralta
3B Inge
C Avila
Bench: Santiago, Boesch/ Wells, Guillen/ Rhymes, or Sizemore. Kelly
SP Verlander
SP Scherzer
SP Porcello
SP Vacant
SP Galarraga/ Coke/ Oliver
CL Valverde
RP Benoit
RP Vacant
RP Perry
RP Schlereth
RP Thomas/ Miner
RP Weinhardt/ Zumaya
If you survived 2003, you can get through this!
I think we're okay with Raburn at 6
But I’m a big fan. I’d switch up the order a bit however:
CF Jackson
2B Sizemore/Rhymes
RF Ordonez/Werth
1B Cabrera
DH Martinez
LF Raburn/Wells
C Avila
SS Peralta
3B Inge

yep
Rhymes at 2 is good but Sizemore I’d bat lower
I would switch Avila and Jhonny too
I see it that way too though
if - just if
they sign Magglio I would bat him behind Cabrera. Vmart, Cabrera then Ordonez.
President & Founder of the "Bring back the Big Tilde in 2k11" Campaign
Are you serious?
Rayburn as the #3 hitter? If thats the case please tell me DD is begging Maggs to come back. A decent half season does not a 3 hitter make. I really wish they would let VMart catch evevryday and sign Thome as the DH as well as bring back Maggs. Put Boesch in RF and let him know either produce or say bye bye.
Jackson CF
Rhymes 2B
Ordonez RF
Cabrera 1B
Martinez C
Thome DH
Boesch LF
Peralta SS
Inge 3B
Using the players we have...
Since Maggs isn’t currently a Tiger, I put a lineup together without him. If we remove Maggs from your lineup, who hits 3rd?
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
I'm assuming we sign Maggs or Werth, most likely Maggs
I don’t see us signing strictly an affordable DH/Pinch Hitter as long as Guillen is on the roster, doubly so since we signed V-Mart.
1. CF Jackson
2. 2B Gullien/Rhymes/Sizemore
3. RF Ordonez/Werth?
4. 1B Cabrera
5. DH V. Mart
6. LF Raburn
7. SS Peralta
8. 3B Inge
9. C Avila
I think 6/7/8 are interchangeable. I basically put them in order of OBP.
in for a penny, in for a pound
I believe Dombrowski is as serious as he says he is about adding a corner OF bat and he’ll likely go hard after Crawford—whose skill-set matches up well with Comerica.
If they strike out on Crawford, I wouldn’t just expect them to go for Werth or Maggs. I think a trade for a proven corner OF bat would be more likely.
In any case, I think the line that Leyland posts most days of the week will change over the course of the season. With Carlos likely to unavailable until late May, I think the lineup we’ll see most often in April/May will look like this:
AJAX
RHYMES
CRAWFORD (if he’s signed)
CABRERA
V-MART
RABURN
PERALTA
AVILA
INGE
late May/June/early July
AJAX
RHYMES
CRAWFORD
CABRERA
V-MART C
GUILLEN DH
RABURN
PERALTA
INGE
late July/August/September…who knows.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see Guillen on the DL and theTIgers happy with V-Mart more often than Avila and they pick up a DH at the trade deadline.
So what's your plan when Crawford's not signed?

i am going to cry all day
I have already cleared my schedule too cuz I know we will not even make an offer.
aww
I have some puffs all ready for you. I don’t think he’s ever been part of the plan. However, Werth could be a possibility. But I wouldn’t count on him either. What we be most disappointing is if the Tigers do nothing about getting another bat. If that happens, I might cry all day with you.
President & Founder of the "Bring back the Big Tilde in 2k11" Campaign
My ideal lineup...
1. Jackson CF
2. Guillen 2B
3. Ordonez RF
4. Cabrera 1B
5. Martinez C
6. Peralta SS
7. Raburn LF
8. Rotating vets into the DH spot while playing Boesch/Wells/Rhymes in the field
9. Inge 3B
Granted, this is only when Guillen gets back and healthy… but when he does, that’s a pretty decent lineup. Having Inge bat 9th instead of 6th shows how much more depth is here…
A lifelong Tigers fan
1. Jackson CF
2. Raburn LF/DH
3. Ordonez RF
4. Cabrera 1B
5. Martinez C/DH
6. Peralta SS
7. Sizemore 2B
8. Inge 3B
9. Wells (when LF) or Avila (when C)
Although I would probably cry tears of joy if it looked like this:
1. Jackson CF
2. Werth RF
3. Magglio DH
4. Cabrera 1B
5. Martinez C
6. Raburn LF
7. Peralta SS
8. Sizemore 2B
9. Inge 3B
(and then trade your surplus young OF + strieby + 2 pitchers for an actual #3 SP and a reasonable RP.)
(then DD can take a week of to bask in glory)
