AFL Tigers lead team in errors
Here's an interesting (and perhaps disconcerting) fact from the AFL: the three Tiger position players on the Surprise Rafters roster (Ben Guez, Francisco Martinez, and Cale Iorg) are the three team leaders in errors committed. Iorg and Martinez have each committed 4 errors and Guez has committed 3. No one else on the team has more than 2. Combined, the Tiger trio has committed 11 errors while the rest of the team (combined) has committed 16.
Given the small sample size, I'm not sure what (if anything) this means. Given the solid defensive reputations of Iorg and Martinez, it probably doesn't mean much. But if nothing else, it is interesting.
While being among the team leaders in errors is certainly a dubious honor, Guez also leads the team in OPS (1.041 in 44 PA). Martinez has been solid so far with a .804 OPS, while Cale Iorg (as usual) is among the team's bottom feeders with just a .495 OPS and 11 K in 34 AB.
In other Tiger-related AFL news, the four Tigers pitchers in the AFL (Brendan Wise, Chance Ruffin, Matt Hoffman, and Brooks Brown) are each in the team's bottom seven in ERA. Brown is the worst offender, having given up 10 ER in 10 innings.

At least Cale
Can make up for it with his plate discipline. Wait, .495 OPS isn’t good? What’s the point of him again?
Um, to take Dloogy's roster spot?
Shoot me now.
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
Nice to see Brooks Brown dominating
I’ve heard so much about him in the last couple of months.
They gave them all a chance, but they didn’t produce—now back to my list.

well... errors don't really tell the whole story...
Martinez and Iorg are known as outstanding (okay… above average) defenders at their respected position: 3rd base and short. Naturally, they will be getting more balls to field and more opportunities to make more plays (which increases their probability to make more fielding miscues).
Also, since both are plus defenders, they also have better range than most of their fielding counterparts. An increased range also allows them to make a larger amount of plays on balls, which, again, increases their chances to make an error.

Agreed.
I noted this in the second paragraph (just in fewer words). Mostly I just thought it was an interesting coincidence that the three Tiger position players in the league happen to form the bottom three in errors on their team. Other than being an interesting little piece of trivia, it probably means next to nothing.
I also like to poke fun of Cale “Future All-Star” Iorg whenever possible. Not because I hate Cale Iorg, but because Dombrowski trumpeted him as the next Alan Trammell.
Martinez and Guez
Good news on these guys! I really hope they continue to progress well. Thank you for the update.

Nobody in the AFL is doing anything noteworthy thus far
Brooks Brown is 1- 2 with an ERA of 11.08 thus far. A career minor leaguer, so nothing to be alarmed about although he does better than this in AAA ball.
Matt Hoffman has been used as a closer for the Surprise, and he’s throwing smoke. He’s struck out one batter per inning for 8 frames thus far, and his velocity has gotten into the upper 90’s.
Brendan Wise did some closing in Toledo and has not been a strikeout pitcher. is an Aussie reliever. Early control issues have left him with an ERA of 5.63.
Chance Ruffin is 1-1 plus he was credited w/the “win” in the AFL All-Star Game on Saturday night. His ERA is at 5.68 but opponents are only hitting .158 against him. He had one bad outing to kill his ERA, otherwise he’s been good.
Cale Iorg is hitting .190/.277/.357 w/ 2 SB’s and 5 errors. Still, DD will put him on the 40 man roster, for no freaking good reason.
Francisco Martinez is maybe the kid to watch in this group, and is hitting .289/.325/.447 w/ 1 SB. He plays third base, and along with Castellanos and Gaynor, the Tigers should at last be able to find Inge’s eventual replacement.
Ben Guez is hitting .308/.400/.641 w/ 4 SB, 3 2B, 1 3B, and 3 HR in limited action. Guez has to be fairly far down on the prospect chart.
