Allikazoo's Spring Training Insanity, Day One
Hi all. I don't really have a ton to say about today's game, mostly because I slept about 3-4 hours last night before flying to Florida and we went straight to the game from the airport. Extreme lack of sleep + travel + juggling cameras & blackberry in the sun = dead Alli. I think I'm just gonna list various thoughts, then I'll share a couple photos.
- I got there just as the second inning started, and we kind of ran into the park without taking any time to soak up the surroundings, so I don't have a lot to say on that yet.
- I really like Joker Marchant stadium though. Very nice little ballpark. People aren't lying when they say there isn't a bad seat in the house, from what I could tell. Attendance today was the second biggest crowd in the history of the place.
- Brennan Boesch and Ryan Strieby are BIG DUDES. Wow. I knew that just from seeing other people's photos, but in person I was like "whoa." Of course, I didn't get any decent photos of either of them to back this up. Sorry.
- Wilkin Ramirez runs fast. REALLY fast.
- Jacob Turner is very impressive, and I have a crappy video to prove it after the jump.
- Seeing Curtis as a Yankee didn't weird me out as much as I thought it would. I did not include the one photo I got of him (I took several but they all sucked) in this post, in case that still makes anyone squeamish.
There are a few photos after the jump, and the entire set is here. The pics from today aren't the most amazing, probably due to the fact that I'm out of practice and tired.. future sets will hopefully be better.
The next game I'm supposed to go to is Friday. The weather is forecast to be thunderstorm-tastic throughout the entire state of Florida. Hopefully some baseball will still take place, please think dry thoughts for me because I have really great seats to that game. As promised, I tried to give a really bare bones play-by-play of the game via the @norunsupport twitter, I hope it helped since there was no media coverage today. I'll do what I can at the rest of the games I go to!

Knock, knock.. (come on, you knew I was going to include a photo of Casper)

This video totally sucks and I'm sorry, the camera I wanted to bring that takes HD video was somehow left behind (NICE ONE, DAD). If you click through you can see a bigger version of it. This was his first strikeout of the day - I don't remember who was batting, but it was a three pitch K. I have some more videos from the other point & shoot I have and will try to upload them soon.
SLEEP. NOW.

It's so nice
. . . to look at those gorgeous, bright white uniforms (the best in all of sports) and realize that the pictures aren’t from last year. Baseball’s back. Amazing.
Great pictures, Alli.

Three major question
(1) Does Dontrelle really make the team? Dammit I love the kid and I love his story but I’m just not sure.
(2) What’s the drink of the spring? I’m stuck on rum. I need help here folks.
(3) Why did they cancel Las Vegas in the Five Season? THEY ENDED THE SHOW ON A CLIFFHANGER AND THAT’S JUST CRUEL!!!!!
p.s.
Its really getting weird.
my first beverage here was a pint glass-sized vodka tonic
but mostly because absolut was on special. I could see it becoming a theme though. refreshing after a game.

I wish the Tigers would sign a Cuban defector
Mojitos would be an excellent option if that were the case.
You're living the dream, Alli!
I’d love to spend time at spring training one of these years. Count me amongst the jealous!

it's only been one day and it's already worth the trip

nice updates
Although the snow is really melting fast in Michigan, I got some stuff for my bike yesterday at the store, and I’m going to get my tickets for the local ballclub this weekend, so signs of spring are popping up all over.
(Which means a Michigan blizzard in about mid-April.) :D

Just one blizzard?
That doesn’t seem right…

Thanks!
I am jealous but prefer vicarious enjoyment to none at all.
Is it me or does Miggy look a little heavy?
He looks a bit bigger to me as well, although maybe that's just because I'm comparing him to the end of last season
(Since just about everyone loses weight during the course of the season).

I agree
Miggy did look a bit more hefty to me too when I was down in Lakeland earlier this week
Verlander.Porcello.Crosby.Scherzer.Turner: the future..?
I though I read somewhere
he’s up to about 265 lb.
