6. Brown, RF

In case anyone hasn’t heard yet, Polanco sprained his knee yesterday so that’s why he’s not in the lineup.
Also note that the Tigers are using the DH while the Phillies are having their pitcher bat.

Watching the sprained knee play
shows why pitchers should catch their own popups.

Gotta love spring training.
Think they’ll let us do that in interleague play in the NL parks?
Hey all!!!!
Finally got a day off today so I can track this game
by tigers4ever on Mar 16, 2010 12:31 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
i can be here for the first hour or so
my computer class got canceled and so i’m sitting in the lab. cmon tigers!
I Like Pie
ok, so laird is batting fifth
that’s really odd. but hey, if he can keep his hitting up, i wouldn’t mind him that high in games.
I Like Pie
And the Phillies go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the first
Verlander gets himself two groundouts and a flyout.
Where are you guys watching this one?
Is there a live stream?
The artist formerly known as Granderson28
Supposedly it's similar to Raburn's, but I forgot to look
by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 16, 2010 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions
He had the bat resting on his shoulder, but that was the only similarity I saw.
by StringTheory on Mar 16, 2010 1:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Tigers go 1-2-3 in the top of the second
Wells flyout to RF
Laird lineout to LF
Inge flyout to deep CF (Victorino made it a little more exciting by taking a bad route)
I believe it's actually "Domonic"
He’s (I believe) the Phillies top rated prospect since the Halladay guys departed.
Think Boesch will hit another bomb today?
I picture him during BP acting like Happy Gilmore in the driving range scene: “50 bucks says I can hit it over the highway. Any takers?”

Probably
On April 6th: “Only 364 more days until Opening Day!”

Boesch isn't just Country Strong...
he’s demigod strong. Son of Zeus strong.

That sounds like something
Rod Allen would say. Well done.

Oh Opie...
I wonder how many times I’ll cut-and-paste that phrase this season.

i liked the description of him in the yahoo free agent tracker
“still an excellent shortstop. still can barely hit his weight.”
I Like Pie
Maybe he should gain some weight, eat bite-for-bite with Miggy-Cab.

I love these afternoon games...
I just sit on my lunch break and follow the game on the threads for an hour.

Howard has also gotten himself into much better shape these past couple years
Back in like ‘08, you could charitably call him “chunky”. Nowadays he’s nearly svelte. Still a big dude, though.
Would you go so far to say
that he’s Country Strong?

Gross.
And on the broadcast, they’re advertising a show where they visit his wife and new baby at home.

Cole Hamels has hair that belongs in a shampoo commercial

for you Red Wings fans out there.

Hamels struck out the side, while giving up two hits and an unearned run
Though I don’t know why it should be an “unearned” run when it’s the pitcher who made the error…
I’m not sure, but it looked like Howard’s error. He could have easily caught the ball.

Does anyone know where you can find stats from PAST spring trainings?
I’m trying to do some research and I’m having a lot of trouble finding 2008 and 2009 spring stats. Any ideas?
If you go to a player's page, it'll show their spring stats from the past few years

3 runs in 4 innings
I hope that number goes down by midseason - or early season, or even next spring start

But hey, he's the first Phillies broadcaster to get Verlander's pitching repertoire correct
Fastball, curve, changeup, working on a slider
All the other broadcasters keep talking about a splitter
by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 16, 2010 2:08 PM EDT up reply actions
Who cares what the pitches are called?
The important fact is they can’t be hit.

Oh my goodness where people upset about that this am at work.

Brown hits a "2-run HR"
(Technically, it wasn’t because some guy reached over the fence and caught it in his hat, but the umpire didn’t see that)
What I don’t get is that the way the ball left his bat, it looked like a pop-up
based on the way his knees buckled
he’s fully healthy

Tigers go 1-2-3
Inge takes a called third strike
Larish grounds out to 2B
Sizemore grounds out to 3B
Brandon really is amazing in the field, most of the time.

Well...
Back to work for me. Go Tigers!

Bottom 5th: Coke blows
Rollins doubles past Kelly
Victorino called out on strikes
Dobbs one-hops to Kelly, ground out
Howard walked by Coke
Ibanez walks
Brown RBI on infield single over Coke
Perry replaces Coke
Castro grounds out to Sizemore
The Phillies have made a bunch of defensive changes, most of which I didn't pay attention to
Dewayne Wise (he of the Mark Buehrle perfect game fame) is in center, though
Danys Baez is pitching.
Greg Dobbs just robbed Everett of a hit
Easy On Opie....
…..Or ya aint gona get no pie from aunt bea.

There is a REALLY annoying kid somewhere in the stands making taunting noises and singing the Mexican hat dance music
It could be that, too
Either way, it’s annoying. I’m glad he’s not doing it all the time

Half the time you can't understand what the Tampa Heckler is saying
I do get curious about which particular player is gonna get heckled, though.
by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 16, 2010 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions
In case you were wondering
here is all you ever wanted to know (and more) about the Tampa Heckler. Or I guess we should call him the Tampa Welsher?
Top 6th:
Everett grounds out to third, Dobbs makes another good play
Jackson’s on first (I don’t know how, went to get the mail)
Domonic Brown makes an uneccesary dive to get a Damon liner
Ordonez broken bat grounder to first.
Gotta go....
… pick up the kids from school ….. Sabre, you can have the delayed play-by- play back.
GO TIGERS!!!
And I know it's long before my time...
…but I REALLY wanted Mayberry to pop out to Opie, just for the pun.

We've already cut two catchers
I think Dan and Jim mentioned that there is a meeting on Thursday. More cuts will probably be made then.

Tigers do not score in the 7th
Wells K
Laird walk
Kelly flyout to deep LF
Larish single
Ciriaco groundout
Daniel Schlereth now pitching
And according to the Phillies broadcasters, he and Max Scherzer are “fighting for a spot in the rotation”
Max St. Pierre is catching
And apparently (according to the Phillies broadcasters)
“The Tigers are looking at him as a starter rather than a reliever.”
That's okay
They just said that Cole Hamels went five scoreless innings, when in fact he gave up one run
by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 16, 2010 3:47 PM EDT up reply actions
If the Tigers had made that decision about Schlereth . . .
. . . his dad would have said something about it on TV . . .
If anyone has MLB TV
with their cable package they are showing this game at 10pm tonight
Welcome to Detroit, NO sissies allowed
