Tigers vs. Yankees (Till Kurt gets back from the grocery store)
Tigers lineup
1 Jackson CF
2 Thomas RF
3 Inge 3B
4 Cabrera 1B
5 Guillen DH
6 Laird C
7 Ramirez LF
8 Dlugach 2B
9 Santiago SS
Pitching -- The Kid
In the first -- Jackson struck out, Clete doubled, Inge doubled and Thomas scored. Miggy struck out and Carlos flied out. Tigers lead 1 - 0 with Yankees coming up. I missed the Yankees lineup while trying to type this.
Jeter leading off -- hah just struck out!!!

thames is up and my computer is slow as molasses today
So unless there’s a real need for this thread, I may abandon it and just watch the game.
Your slow computer comment showed up the same time I said that. If it’s a hassle, you obviously don’t have to continue on my account. :)

I'm here!
watching the game online :)

too bad the boys don't seem to want
to give him any sort of rest.

It's good to know we have one guy who can hit CC.
Who would have thought it’d be Clete?

Okay -- I must get some work done so I've gotta scoot from here.
May check back later and see if Kurt has all the ice cream put away.
Three unearned runs
Ricky got the two grounders he needed with the bases jammed and one out, but Santiago bobbled the sure third out, and three unearned runs eventually scored. Porcello is still at 0.00 for the spring.
Not anymore.

Here's the deal
Easy first inning for Porcello
A Roid and Cano singled to start the second
Got Thames on a check swing called third strike- blue said he went around
Hoffman (the rule 5 guy trying to platoon in CF/ LF) draws a BB. Bases loaded one out
Cervelli hits a high chopper to Inge, no shot at a DP, comes home for the force. Still loaded, Two out.
Golson hits a grounder to Santiago at SS and he boots it. Run scores, bases loaded two out.
Cheter singles to RCF for two more runs. 3- 1 Yankers.
A Roid hits a no doubter in the third
Who would win a fight...
CC or Miggy?

howdy folks
i was wondering why there was no thread.
and trust me, kurt isn’t out enjoying the weather if he can help it. it was blizzarding about half an hour ago.

I love the difference in broadcaster phrasing
FS Detroit: “Tigers threaten but do not score”
YES: “Yankees don’t score but they give the Tigers a scare by loading the bases”
I don't think FSD is showing it.
My only option on mlb.tv is the yankees broadcast.

Thankfully without Michael Kay.

joe-el zumaya
Why do people feel the need to make “Joel” a two syllable name?

Drives me crazy
Even the great Peter Gammons did it. The guy’s from California, people.
these outfielders aren't making it easy on Leyland
to figure out which ones to send down after spring training

A good problem
at least

Is it just me, or have the umps' strikezones been really inconsistent throughout the spring?
Prior to striking out, Inge just took a REALLY close pitch on 2-2 for a ball, and that pitch actually looked more like a strike than a couple of the called third strikes that Sabathia got earlier.
From the little bit of the game I've seen, our guys have had problems with offspeed pitches away
Cabrera, Inge, and Laird have all swung and missed on either breaking balls or changeups away.

There are some defensive changes as well
Rawley Bishop is at 1B
Someone besides Laird is catching (Max St Pierre?)
The folks at YES have not enlightened us yet

Will Rhymes at 2B
Dlugach moves to 3B
Still haven’t positively ID’d the catcher

I remember Cervelli from the WBC last year
He represented Italy, but he’s actually from Venezuela

Emptying the bench
2B Rhymes
1B Bishop
C St Pierre
My guess is that these guys finish ST in minor league camp.

who's pitching for the Tigers now?
The Yanks broadcasters ain’t saying, and the box score is like molasses.
Hoffman may be in some sorta platoon
with Granderson, Gardner, Swisher, etc. One of the few Rule 5 picks that may stick.
I haven't gotten to watch him play yet
But he seems like he’s slowly becoming a perty good asset
Don't Panic!
I would have last season
He can’t hit this well, but the kid can field and he would have saved us a million bucks. Hell, split time between him and Santiago.

I think Piñiero's name actually is pronounced "Jo-el" though
I wonder how Rodney’s been doing this spring. I haven’t checked his numbers at all

Did they just send that picture out to every team's broadcaster?
I remember Mario and Rod using that exact same image last year.

Wow, Mariano Rivera didn't stay in uniform very long
And that double play probably ended that interview before they intended it to end

I forget most of you didn't get to watch him when he came up with the Mariners.
So you haven’t gotten to hear him all that often.

We'll be going pretty far down the depth charts now
with a split squad game this evening vs the Bravos
Who knew?
Sabathia is naturally right-handed. At least, he writes with his right hand. I think Nate Robertson is the same way.
I've tried batting left-handed before, and I can't swing properly from that side. It feels too unnatural.
Not that I’m that fantastic from the right side.
