“Hey, this guy’s pretty good, right?”

Hey now

Don’t knock Casey. He’s a Fien relief prospect.

President, Vice President and Secretary of the Casey Crosby Fanclub.

by David Tokarz on Mar 20, 2010 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions

you know the rules of puns

only work when you don’t have to mispronounce then! bobby seay can’t be pronounced “say” so you can’t pronounce Fien as “fine” ;)

Picky, picky.

Sizemore not in again

Make you wonder if he’ll be ready for opening day.
He may start on the DL with Dlugach or Kelly at 2b.
If so, good news for the Clete Cult.

by Cecil_Fielder on Mar 20, 2010 12:11 PM EDT reply actions

Again?

He played against the Braves last night.

by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 20, 2010 1:12 PM EDT up reply actions

Not so friendly to Casper

I was hoping they’d keep him in name only.

by Tim Simpson on Mar 20, 2010 12:12 PM EDT reply actions

Also with Bonine NOT starting...

he’s clearly not a candidate to start—-he’s not being stretched out (been pitching single innings). maybe he’s primed to take over Zach M’s role?

by Cecil_Fielder on Mar 20, 2010 12:12 PM EDT reply actions

that would be a great role for him

he’s such a great competitor and would do a good job if the tigers were losing 7-1 in the 3rd and was asked to quiet the bats for 3 innings to give the tigers a chance to catch up. most pitchers would have a hard time in such situations.

by Cecil_Fielder on Mar 20, 2010 12:30 PM EDT up reply actions

DD want's Miner's spot

so he can postpone the decision on which $ 10- 12 million pitcher he has to release.
We’ll have an expensive failed starter holding a mop in the pen when the season opens.

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 20, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm guessing that FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...

starting because of the Phillies 1st 4 hitters (2 switch hitters, 2 lefties) so Leyland wants to get him some work against quality hitters and lefties because that’s likely to be his role if Seay can’t go at the beginning of the year.

by davking1980 on Mar 20, 2010 12:16 PM EDT reply actions

Good point, although

Ni could have been brought in in the 3rd or 4th inning and face the same line-up (and this would be more realistic for him…coming in the middle of the game)

by Cecil_Fielder on Mar 20, 2010 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Tom Gage reports on Bobby Seay

major setback for Bobby Seay, will have an MRI – pain in today’s bullepen session

by Kurt Mensching on Mar 20, 2010 12:35 PM EDT reply actions

I dont think that it necessarily means a thing for Thomas

Thomas isn’t exactly earning his way onto the team, and there’s no reason you need to take 3 lefties north. I think it means an extra righty can go like Robbie Weinhardt.

by Kurt Mensching on Mar 20, 2010 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions   1 recs

I don't think Coke will be used as a situational lefty

And Jim likes to have 2 (especially against the Twins).
But, I’d be very happy is Weinhardt makes the team.

by Cecil_Fielder on Mar 20, 2010 1:00 PM EDT up reply actions

Who IS stepping up to claim bullpen spots?

Not Zumaya, not Perry, not Thomas so much, not Seay, not Miner…..
Weinhardt is, and how about CASEY FIEN?

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 20, 2010 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Any news on Zumaya?

I thought he’d be pitching today. Hopefully tomorrow!

by Cecil_Fielder on Mar 20, 2010 12:38 PM EDT reply actions

Zoomer is healthy

but his fastball is still flat as a pancake. The freak show is over. Either he gets some movement on that thing or he’s toast. Include him in a deal for Heath Bell- he’s from Chula Vista- and leave the Twinkies high and dry.

by Tigerdog1 on Mar 20, 2010 2:38 PM EDT up reply actions

No trade for Bell

He’d cost us too much in terms of prospects.

DH rules

Isn’t it weird that one team is using a DH and another isn’t, in the same game? I thought the teams had to have the same rules.

by frisbeepilot on Mar 20, 2010 1:15 PM EDT reply actions

even if that was the case, there’s no reason they couldn’t call halladay the dh, right? for that matter, i think you can dh for anyone; it doesn’t have to be the pitcher i don’t think.

my goodness these phillies announcers are inaccurate

a good reminder never to trust what announcers say about the opposing team

by Kurt Mensching on Mar 20, 2010 1:17 PM EDT reply actions

I keep meaning to ask this, but I've forgotten until now

Just about all the other teams in spring training wear some sort of alternate or warm-up jersey, but the Tigers are in their normal regular season uniforms. Why is that?

by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 20, 2010 1:18 PM EDT reply actions

That's a good question.

But I’m glad they stick with the standard uni’s… even the Yankees wear a navy-blue jersey in the spring.

It's a matter of time

very short time, probably. He came into the spring probably higher on the depth chart than the guys that were sent down yesterday, but I’d have him about even with Boesch, and behind Wells and Strieby right now. The holes in his swing and inability to hit the curve are a huge problem. He can have all the tools in the world, but he’s not a major leaguer.

Throw him in that package with Zoomer for Heath Bell!
