Good for Joe.

Sticking with his team for “cheap”.
Could have gotten a lot more on the open market I think.

Weird seeing $184 million and Minnesota in the same sentence.

He deserves it and I hope he can keep up his game up for the duration minus the 19 games against the Tigers every year.

Way to go Joe

So thinking about it, the Twins will never offer anyone else this kind of money. SO in 3 years it’ll be Mauer and low paid rookies.

Maybe Morneau

Or Kubel.

yeah, i'll give you that

those 3 and a bunch of rookies. but the Twins seem to have a way to come out ahead even when they pull guys out of their butt. For instance, Nathan is shut down, I look for them to pull a closer out of their butt, who will be just as effective as nathan was.

Twins payroll this year is pushing $100 mil. Opening a new stadium helps push the payroll higher for the next few years since there is a residual effect that people keep coming out in droves whether the team is good or bad, just to see the stadium. So, I don’t think it’ll be that way at all for the Twins. They’ll be spending money.

Just curious

I know this is one of the larger contracts (ever) is there another player who’s contract is bigger than this?

I read somewhere that it's the fourth highest

A-Rod and Derek Jeter are two of the others, but I’m not sure who the third is.

It is:

A-Rod
A-Rod
Jeter
Mauer
Teixeira.
