Morning Prowl: Granderson really wanted to face Verlander
MLive's Dick Scanlon found an interesting story idea after the Tigers were rained out of their scheduled game against the Yankees on Sunday.
Curtis Granderson really wanted to face Justin Verlander. (This sounds kind of like those commercials on all the time for that video game, though honestly I remember the commercials a lot better than I remember which game they're for. They need more distinguishing titles.)
"It was going to be fun," Granderson said. "I only faced (Verlander) once, in a batting cage. It was in the first couple days of spring training when the guys are just getting their arms going and the catchers are telling you what pitches are coming

I think it is sad and poor reporting
that Henning did not mention WIllis’ numbers.
What is this? You can’t hide stats in baseball.
Not as a serious reporter!
Is Henning scared that if posts Willis’ era, his argument
is no longer legit?
Henning saying Willis will be cut
because he topped out at 89 during a start in which he suffered back spasms is just silly. Robertson and Bonine both routinely work in the 80s, but Henning says they make the team.
I have a much more detailed argument on my site
It's almost as if Henning wrote the bulk of this column weeks ago
And then the script didn’t proceed the way he thought it would (which is understandable), but he decided to publish it anyways.

Lots of sportswriters
are guilty of this. Why do you think we’re here, at sites like BYB and other blogs? Because Kurt and his colleagues do their homework, and base their writing off more than blind opinion. The only Henning articles I read are whatever is linked here.

I don't know why I read his articles...
…I guess it’s because they are about the Tigers and I always make the stupid assumption that a professional writer will be reasonably well-informed. To me, reading Henning is like reading an article written by a die-hard fan…unfortunately, they are a fan of another sport in another region.
For what it's worth:
This question was tweeted to Jason Beck:
i’m assuming you’ve heard the rumors about D-Train being out of the rotation?
I’m hearing different. Bullpen injuries could change things too.
he’s more accurate than most want to admit, but not accurate enough.
He’s frustrating to be an apologist for because he’ll get things right time and time, then get hung up on something he should just drop, or say outlandish things.
You never know when the outlandish thing he says is actually going to happen or not. You cannot rule it out, nor can you really put great faith in it.
He’s entertaining and the Tigers media could use more people who do analysis and stuff like that. Things are a little too straight forward and the columnists in this town don’t give two shits about baseball, unfortunately.
But I guess that’s why so many people like to read the blog for accurate, non-biased commentary
He’s also a pretty nice guy, answers when you write him, did a long interview with me. So people got to separate the written word from the person, too.

well I'm not sold he's a Tiger
and if he is, I don’t think he lasts as one.
