Nate Robertson pitched into the fifth inning, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out four. He did give up two runs, but the Tigers' bullpen was stellar for the rest of the game. Dontrelle Willis gave up a double and a single, but managed to escape the situation without allowing any runs. Report was he pitched just one inning to get some work in, as he's scheduled to start on Thursday. The Detroit defense turned three double plays -- including one behind Willis -- to help the matter

Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn both hit home runs, and Austin Jackson connected for his third triple of the spring session.

Yup spot number 5....

…..goes to Willis or Bondo…..Right now it would have to be Willis based on stats but who knows…..I hope its Willis to start and Bondo on the DL…..This way we can see what Willis has and if it doesnt work we would have Bondo after 2 weeks.

I take it you're giving No. 4 to Nate, then?

Nate has been the best of the bunch so far, but they pre-annointed Bonderman as No. 4 and I don’t think he’s blown it yet. Doesn’t matter who’s 4 and who’s 5, but I’d have Bondo and Nate making it as of today. Willis still looks ready to implode.

I Think Leyland.....

….said only the top 3 spots were sewn up……Bondo has not shown me anything last year or this spring….At least Dontrelle has shown the ability to hit the corners this spring.

Sewn up, yes

but Bonderman’s name was on that fourth spot when camp opened. It’s his job to lose. He’s capable of losing it, but all the indications leading up to spring training were that they wanted Bonderman in that spot.

here's a link, bennie

If you click on the video interview with DD on this page, he names the guys that he expected to be the top four starters. There are other similar quotes from around that time frame. Nothing sewn up yet, but that was the expectation.

Ok.....

…..I still think right now that its Nates and Dontrelles in the 4 and 5 spot.

You never know how strongly management feels

about the predetermined outcome to these “contests”. There’s the Logan vs Granderson, and the Cletus vs AJax contests, and then there’s Verlander in 2006, who just had to show he could handle it. Galarraga had no shot this year, IMO, if any two of the overpaid gang were even half way decent.

Our manager and general manager

I can understand why some hate Leyland and Dombrowski, but I’m thankful I’m not a fan of the CWS. Guillen’s kid has been posting negative stuff on Kenny Williams which led the kid to “resign”. When our guys apply nepotism all that happens is the kid hits a couple of dingers and plays a decent backstop.

More importantly....

Kurt I need a score on the MSU/NIU game on Friday. I want to sell my soul and place a bet.

Doesn't seem like a wise game to bet on.

Especially if you’re a Spartan fan. That game could go a lot of different ways.

Well

Then there’s this. Too bad it’s Tom Gage and not Lynn Henning. As an aside, I love the accompanying photo of Scott Sizemore.

Robertson the real deal

JL has said, “the best” 25 guys will go North with the team. “The 5 best starters will make the rotation and they will stand out”. Well enough said. If we were loading the trucks today, bondo would be in the bullpen. Not that he’s done terribly bad, but, NR, & DW have done better. That said, I’ve stated in other blogs I think the Tigers bought time when Miner & Seay went down with injuries. (Not that anyone wanted that). They still need a long reliever and that could be the 6th starter of Bondo, NR, DW. At least untill Miner or Seay come back. And, I am not so sure Lynn Henning see’s things like other people see. I know he’s a professional writer and all, but if I am not mistaken DW has the best ERA of spring for those looking to be a starter. He states no matter what DW he’s taking his D Train outta here. I DONT THINK SO!! It would be great if we could get one decent season out of him. If his good ERA doesnt help him now then why even bring him to spring training? It seems everyone is waiting for DW to fail before we give him credit for how far he has come and what he’s showing now. Yes, I’m skeptical as well. But lets give the guy a chance. We all loved it when we signed him. Thougts Guys???

Spring stats matter very, very little

what will decide if Willis is in the rotation is not the innings you see in a box score, it’s what the management of the team sees outside the box score.
