Bobby Seay and Zach Miner placed on disabled list - UPDATED
The Tigers placed relievers Bobby Seay and Zach Miner on the disabled list this morning, among other moves they announced.
Bobby Seay should hopefully talk about the results of his visits to specialists soon. His pitching arm has ... something wrong with it. What's wrong? We don't know. It was initially misdiagnosed as tendinitis or bursitis is all Seay has said about it.
ETA: Well, this isn't very good news to wake up to. Seay has a torn rotator cuff, which he will try to rehab. - Allikazoo
Miner has pain in his elbow -- it's said to be a minor strain in the ligaments and muscles. He should be on path to pitch when he is eligible to come off the DL.
If the Tigers were to trade Nate Robertson, right-hander Eddie Bonine would almost certainly make the team in some capacity or other.
The other moves:
- Daniel Schlereth and Wilkin Ramirez optioned to Triple-A Toledo
- Phi Dumatrait, Enrique Gonzalez and Maxim St. Pierre sent to minor league camp.

I feel bad for Bobby
I chatted with Bobby Seay a couple of times out here in Anaheim when the Tigs were in town. One of my favorite places to sit is in the cheap seats in LF out by the bullpens. The visitor’s pen is raised up and is right in front of the LF seats. Bobby was always one that was willing to chatter a bit before the games. He’s also one of the very, very few of DD’s many, many, many NRI"s that DD would bring into camp instead of getting a proven major league pitcher to plug holes in a struggling bullpen.
On one occasion in May, 2008, the Tigers lost a heart breaking game. 1- 0 in 12 innings. JL intentionally walked Vladdy with runners on second and third (a no brainer), and brought in Seay to pitch to Garrett Anderson. Bobby gave up a four pitch BB, even though Anderson clearly swung at one pitch, and another looked like a sure strike. After the game, I was with some friends in a local establishment, and in came Verlander, Kenny Rogers and Bobby Seay. Kenny had pitched seven shut out innings that night. The guys were all very approachable, helped that I had my “68 Harwell” Tiger joisey on, and willing to talk about the Tigers a bit.
Bobby was a real gentleman. I saw what he was drinking and brought a cold one over without asking if he wanted one. I told him that I’d rather have him on the mound in that situation than anyone else on our team, and he appreciated the words of encouragement. That was also the game where Sheffield strained his oblique muscle, so I got the scoop there before it hit the papers. Tough season for the Tigers. Another comment that I made was that they could have gone 12 more scoreless innings, and they wouldn’t have gotten any run support. They sadly chuckled.
2010 would have been Bobby’s last year as a Tiger anyway. Lots of lefties in the pipeline, some with mega talent. I was a little surprised they gave him 2.5 mil, coming off a poor second half of 09, and a bad 2008, with shoulder issues in the second half last year. Looks like Bobby’s days as a Tiger are done. I wish him luck, wherever he goes.
Nice to hear he's a good guy
I hope he hits 10 years service time.
