Is it possible the Tigers could have 4 rookies on thier team leaveing Fla.
Hers my thoughts looknig at this team as it is right now.I think we could very well have 2 super utility infeilders on this years team explain after the jump.I wil lgive my bench palyers after the jump then wants everyones thoughts. And could also our impact Jimmys lineups this year and keep older players fresh for Sept. and if possible Oct. as well.Ok here is my thoughts on my bench for this year.
With the health of some players iam thinknig of leaving Lakeland with a bench of these players.Raburn-super utility outfeilder Santiago-super utility infielder can play 2nd and short Dlugach-super utility infielder can play ss and 3rd Strieby-1b when Cabby needs a rest.It would be a young team but ithink this would be a good team that can compete for the division crown.Give me your thoughts is this possible.

I could see 3 rookies..
But not necessarily all 4. Obviously AJax will be up (1), Sizemore is getting the nod at 2B (2). As far as the third goes, I can see Dlugach making a very strong case for it, as we could use a utility man (3?), although Raburn and Guillen (provided he doesn’t get injured again) also qualify for that. I really don’t see Strieby starting the year in Detroit, since he wouldn’t be playing much at all with Cabrera holding down 1B and Guillen/Maggs at DH. He’d benefit more from playing every day in Toledo. If and when Miguel needs a day off, I see Leyland penciling Guillen or Raburn in, as they’ve both seen a few games at that position.

This is very true
Diaz or Avila taking up a spot will make it even tougher for Dlugach to make the 25 out of camp

I can see 3 or 4
A-Jax or Wells in CF
Sizemore at 2B
Avila at C
Scherleith at RP

No way Schlereth makes the bullpen. Arizona almost ruined him last season. I’d say Weinhardt and Satterwhite are above him in our set-up/relief depth chart. The kid will be great but I’d be willing to bet he’s in AA or AAA all season till September.

I'd agree
But he has a chance, and Detroit rushes players occasionally.

I wouldn't mind seeing that
He’d definitely be an upgrade in terms of his bat, and maybe in fielding too. While everyone feels Adam’s one of the best defensive shortstops in the game, Everett ranked near the bottom,19th out of 24 in fielding % last year (min. of 100 games played), in MLB defensively.

This
He would have saved us some cash, and while he’s not great with the bat (see my MI depth chart), he’d save some runs. And he has more offensive upside than Everett.

13 position players means ....
…. you got too many guys on the bench since you didn’t include a back-up catcher in your list. I’ll think we’ll likely start out the same way we ended up last year: Raburn, Santiago, and Kelly plus a catcher – which I don’t know which way they are leaning, or which way I want them to lean. I would love to see Avila’s bat in Detroit, but don’t want to cheat him out of the more steady work he would get in Toledo.
Kinda hard to say right now
I like seeing what Dlugach is doing right now in the ST games, but with the bullpen and backup catcher situation I just don’t see him making this team right out of camp. I do think Avila need to be in Detroit as the backup… I’d like to see Laird and him split time 60/40. Also think Schlereth has a shot… might need a month or 2 at AAA though
from Hennings article:
“There you have a primary reason why Robinzon Diaz likely will be the Tigers’ backup catcher. The front office and Leyland appear set on giving Alex Avila a tad more time as an everyday catcher at Triple A.”
From The Detroit News: http://www.detnews.com/article/20100306/OPINION03/3060334/1129/rss15#ixzz0hQ0uegia
looks like they wanna go the steady playing time route, which I can’t blame them because it’s smart for his development
Right move too
Avila will benefit from being the everyday backstop down there. He will improve quite a bit and Diaz isn’t really a downgrade either.
However, I’m the same guy that thinks Sizemore would also benefit from AAA so what do I know. I’d take Dlugach over Sizemore and start Everette and Santiago like they have been doing all spring.

I agree
He’ll certainly benefit from starting every day down there until we bring him up again. After watching Diaz this past week down in Lakeland I think it’s safe to say he’ll do an adequate job. He looked good at bat from what I saw, and while I don’t remember seeing him make any throws down to second over the past few days, I think he’ll work just fine as a backup until Alex takes over a fair share of the time behind the plate.
