This has probably already been asked

but is there a way to watch ST games without (a) going to Lakeland or (b) paying a billion dollars for MLB TV?

According to this morning’s game notes:

Thanks!

I’m interested to see how Dontrelle looks after a week to reflect on a pretty good outing…

interesting from the game notes

CASEY CROSBY will be joining the Tigers for today’s game… WF where you at?

He is not mentioned in the pitching rotation but joining the club, anyone care to explain why he would be “joining the club” for this game? General love for the Bravos? Better seats to see Maxamillion’s eyes?

Coke

I’m wondering how seriously Dave and Jim are still considering having Coke be a starter… it’s very early in spring, but he looks much more effective than any of the other candidates for the #4 or #5 spots. I would love to see how he fares over 5 innings.
But if Willis figures it out, having Willis and Robertson at the back end of the rotation could be fun.

fun

hmmm. as much as i like to rag on Willis, you’re right, that would be great if he found the magic fairy dust and everything got better again. However, the ghost of Blass says probably not.

If they say he’s gonna be good, I have to take their word for it. The only observation I had about Scherzer from watching D’Backs games is that he had trouble getting deep into games.

by Robocop on Mar 8, 2010 1:55 PM EST up reply actions

here's my thingking

since starting pitchers go 7+ innings in the real season, and only are going a couple here, and our buddy Fu is a situational guy that should only go a couple of batters in the real season, then he should only be going about half a batter in spring training. He’s way over his pitch count!!

Have we been able to determine why

Matt Diaz is pronounced “Die As”, as opposed to “Dee As” like everyone else? What is he, some sort of asshole?

I actually know

They told the story once when the Tigers were playing the Braves. Apparently his great-grandfather was an immigrant from Spain, and the people he worked for pronounced his name wrong, so he just changed the pronounciation

Braves 8, Tigers 1

Braves 8, Tigers 1

After the second inning.

Scherzer gives up 5 runs, all earned, on four hits (including a two run homer to uber-prospect Jason Heyward) and 3 BB’s with no K’s in only a third of an inning before being pulled. That’s his second rocky performance in two tries, but still early to be alarmed.

Ni follows getting 1.2 innings in, giving up 3 more runs, on 3 hits and another BB with one K. That’s a bit longer than Ni would normally pitch, but I’m sure that his stay on the hill was extended so JL could keep everyone’s work regimen in tact.

Kelly has committed a throwing error playing 3B for the Tigers.

Jeff Larish has driven in the only Tiger run, scoring Pacman on a base hit. Cabrera has a hit for Detroit.

Al’s kid has drawn a BB, and Sizemore has hit into a DP.

Overall, a pretty poor performance across the board in my book. Though the highlights of the day were definitely Dontrelle’s performance. Got a well deserved standing ovation from the Tiger faithful after a quick inning. Also, the hype about Heyward is real. He hit a monster shot in the first. Guy looks to be a real 5 tool player. Bad performance from Casey Crosby. Boesch struck out multiple times and didn’t look that great, but Nunez made some great plays at short, which was promising.
