Free Ryan Raburn!!!
If Sizemore is out during the season, here’s hoping Raburn gets some ABs in there…

Finally I get to SEE Tigers
in uniforms and everything. And Strasburg. Last time I was this excited was Wieters Eve.
this should be the first test of mlb.tv's bandwidth
hopefully things run smoothly.

I think gameday is still being worked on
it exists but is usually a half inning or so behind. gameday.mlb.com

I am in heaven
I have both sound and picture being it is one TV. I am using a very old computer while mind is getting fixed and it has no sound.
I finally get to SEE our boys...at least some of them
I suppose I should ask…Is there anyone stuck at work (or whatever) and needs play by play?
He's not, unfortunately
I was kinda hoping he would be

We also play the Nats again on the 23rd
Maybe we’ll see him then

Funny ....
someone mentioned that MLBN poll yesterday … it was which manager do you think will be ejected most this season?
and easy ones
way too easy. quick swings. make the kid sweat a little.

could be, sometimes mlb.tv doesn't do well at work
but set on low quality it’s usually not an issue

i'm not scoring the game...
…but i think that’s three of his four outs so far. (after kennedy grounder)

Oh, I hate it when broadcasters have the GM with them in the booth
They don’t pay attention to the game when that happens
audio to the rescue for me, i guess
hooray for archived games tonight :/

are they mentioning the speed of every pitch on the tv broadcast?

No, they're mostly chattering with the Nats' GM
They’re discussing DD’s philosophies

they said 40 pitches
i don’t think he’s anywhere near that. didn’t catch the first inning, but i’m thinking he’s somewhere around 20-25

Groundout to second, I think
I was trying to look up Justin Verlander’s numbers against Evan Longoria, so I was a bit distracted

This game is the first time I've seen Ajax in action
His stance looks really familiar, but I can’t pinpoint it
he looks like Grandy
only from the right side. that was my first impression of him the day we got him when I watched you tube vids

that they probably encouraged him to go deeper into the count, maybe to the point that he looked at one too many. . .
spring training for the umps too

Recap: No score after two innings
Gets three grounders to retire the Tigers in order in the first.
Gets the first two in the second, including a strikeout of Cabrera.
Kelly gets a base hit, Avila gets a hit, and Dlugach whiffs on a called third strike, a 3- 2 curve ball with the runners on the move. Nasty pitch.
Porcello has now gone two shutout innings, giving up only a grounder up the middle to Zimmerman.
Four ground outs apiece for Porcello and Strasburg.
Santiago leads off the third with a base hit to LCF, and steals second.
AJax strikes out.
KidRick is actually younger
With all the uber hype around Strassbutt, it’s a nice reminder from Jason Beck that Porcello is actually five months younger

Sure hopes he gets more playing time thsi year. I don’t buy this can’t play every day, can’t play a whole year …. why do they let him play in the Dominican Winter League if that’s the case?

Would be nice if we got some play-by-play in this broadcast
Instead of the first writers’ session for “The Stephen Strasberg Story”
he looks pretty smooth
seems like his footwork is pretty good. always could use improvement, but didn’t seem bad.

Hello all!
My first gamethread of the season. I am in my office with neither sound nor video. Someone paint a word picture, please!
Porcello and Strasburg each pitched two innings
no runs, four ground outs apiece, two singles for the Tigers, one for the Gnats.
Then, the Tigers got a hold of Miguel Batista and beat him like a rented mule!
and in the bottom of the third
PETA came out to protest the Tigers
Official BYB Juju Consultant...now accepting rally creature applications!
I dunno...this office computer doesn't switch from the video back to BYB quickly
i should request an upgrade so I can keep up with two places.
I have them side-by-side
Although MLB.tv doesn’t want to do the Windows 7 side-by-side snap thing

Weirdest piece of analysis I've heard so far this spring:
“That’s the difference between an old fastball and a young fastball”
Apparently if you have an old fastball you give up RBI singles
It didn’t make much sense

You guys should all move to Spain.
Say “spain” to a pig and it will probably just up and commit suicide.
Whitecaps offered chocolate covered bacon on their list of possibles for ballpark food this year
I don’t know if it made the cut though
I like Don Kelly
I hope he makes the club.
That probably means that both AJax and Clete won’t make it, but I think Kelly would be more useful on the pine anyway.

Perry in...
he could fill a big role for the Tigers this year. He has to cut down on the BB’s and lower that WHIP. His last two months weren’t good.
love to see a pitching lineup
of Verlander-Perry-Zoom-Valverde or Porcello-same. Sounds ugly for the bad guys!
yeah
gave up a couple singles to the Good Guys in the 2nd, got lots of guys out and made Miggy whiff.
he was on a very tight pitch count, so he got yanked after 2.
by GreatGooglyMoogly on Mar 9, 2010 2:05 PM EST up reply actions
Gnats GM said
that Strasburg would go two innings or 40 pitches
He got the Tigers in order in the first on 3 grounders, 7 pitches
haha I caught that too
“YEAH!!!”
musta thought that one was gone… didnt even leave the infield though
These two idiots are talking
about two different committees to make baseball “better.” Leyland is on the real committee and the USA Today committee is ridiculous. Read the 1st installment yesterday and they all represented self-serving viewpoints.
Did you see where the Mets are playing the Tigs this year at Citi Field?
I got my tix already! Double Tigers this year!
haven't got tickets yet but
I will be there! get to see them six times. Can’t wait. Always surprised how many Tiger fans I see at Yankee Stadium.

will do
hoping to save up some $$ to see at least one game down closer to the field, hard to do at YS and Citi

Probably
go down to Baltimore in October for a game or two, sure hope they still matter by then. Seats are still pretty cheap there, and still a nice park.
by JerseyTigerFan on Mar 9, 2010 2:32 PM EST up reply actions
too much yakking
they’re not even narrating the game. seems to be the primary job of an in-game announcer. i don’t really care about what’s happening in the minor leagues, especially if it’s unrelated to what’s happening on the field.

Tyler Walker is now pitching for Washington
Two batters in, they finally decided to show his namekey
Ironically, he hasn't walked anybody yet
by SabreRoseTiger on Mar 9, 2010 2:15 PM EST up reply actions
He Walked the Line
…and Maggs pushed him waaaay over it.
by GreatGooglyMoogly on Mar 9, 2010 2:16 PM EST up reply actions
The Jack that Maggs hit in game 163
brought back memories, and left us with a glimmer of hope over the winter, that he has some pop left in his stick. Zero homers for September was very discouraging, despite the .900 something batting average
that is one of the more colorful metaphors I have heard in a while
thank you for expanding my mind today
inspite of weak pitching in few of these early games
this team seems to be able to put up some runs on a pretty consistent basis so far
hope springs eternal!
i meant to play for the big club
no offense to the great city of Toledo or our esteemed minor league system, but putting the big D on your chest is better than a pissed off chicken.

Kelly just made the team
if he hadn’t already ……. be hard to top the 161 games he played last year, though
I just got here
so….Strasburg, huh? 98 mph cheese to Miggy. Big whoop. Chapman apparently hit 102 yesterday for the Reds.
Does Valverde only
pitch from the stretch? noticed he’s not pitching out of the wind-up… anybody know?
"he's trying to make the club"
pretty sure Valverde’s got a job.

So many
of our on-the-cusp young guys are having a great spring and they all can’t make the team, so …..
…. who, if anyone, do you think may be traded prior to opening day/ And, if so, for what? Will it only happen if we can’t shore up the 4th and 5th rotation spots with certainty?
