Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Public Service Announcement

It's only April 10 so I don't expect any of us to be in mid-season form here, but I feel like something needs to be said regarding the jinxing of a no-no.

Dudes, two Tiger pitchers have already had the beginnings of no-hitters going in this young 2010 season, which is pretty awesome. Max Scherzer took one into the 6th the other day, and today Bondo had one into the 4th. Both times someone brought them up in the GameThread, and shortly thereafter, they gave up their first hits of the game.

Don't do it! Don't be THAT PERSON. I know it's exciting when one of the boys is having a great day out there on the mound. But don't say anything about a no-hitter when a guy hasn't allowed any hits, no matter what inning it is. DON'T BE A JINX. Or risk people - and me - blaming you and giving you hell. :)

Thanks, and go Tigers.

If you can't tell I'm approaching this in a lighthearted manner, be assured that I am. I just want to make sure people know these things!

BURN HIM

Okay I know it says “Her”…but I’m at work and the picture I found was too good not to use.

No offense Kurt.

I think this is ridiculous.

Jinxes, hexes and curses aren’t real. They can’t be.

But, I realize that there are people out there who disagree (e.g. Dock Ellis), so I’ll honour this request, under protest. :)

Thank you alli...

this is a message that needed to be put out there.

I'm trying to think up a saying for this movement

“Give a bit, don’t say no-hit.”
“You have to quit talking about no hits.”
“Jinxing pitchers is something White Sox fans would do.”
“No hitters are cool, talking about them is not.”

I root for the Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings and yes, the Lions.

I'm not superstitious

I just enjoy posting silly pictures of vegetables and penguins and the like. But I’ll generally be respectful of those BYBers who are.

I'm not either....

but it’s part of the fun of baseball!

In a long distance relationship with the Tigers--and, yes, we're doing fine.

Help me, Obi-Alli

Is it just the words ‘no-hitter’ that are the jinx, or does anything that even remotely relates to the fact of the no-hitter count. For example, does commenting ‘hmm, look at all the 0’s’ count as a jinx? Inquiring minds want to know!! And how about in reverse? Are we required to comment ’He’s got a no-hitter going’ if the bad guys are keeping the Tigs hitless? And at what point? Clearly, though everyone has at least some idea of the no-hitter jinx, we need established rules of no-hitter etiquette. Please expand your fanpost!! :- )

You can't say "no-hitter"

Or reference the lack of hits using the words no and hitter.

I'm not sure myself...

but I’m against enticing other people to use the words.

by madpoopz on Apr 12, 2010 11:15 AM EDT up reply actions

nobody's required to comment to break up the other guy's no-no

but for the opposing team, I’m all for it.

but yeah, just don’t mention no-hitter.. be careful in referencing it! “nobody’s talking to (pitcher) in the dugout” would be acceptable, for example. I just feel like it shouldn’t be mentioned at all until the game is official, really. but that’s just me.

I'm of the opinion anything before the 7th inning is dumb.

And especially after only 3 innings.

You can ENCOURAGE a no-hitter

…by saying it backwards! Try saying “rettih-on a s’ti” and watch the no-hitters abound!

By the way, I think “rettih-on a s’ti” is also elvish for “junk in the trunk”.

You seriously think that posting something on the internet impacts a game?

Really?
Okay, I’ll agree anyway on one condition.
Someone has to tell me what this pie thing is all about.
