Morning Lede: Say hello to Fernando Rodney!
But before we get to today's links, how awesome is that photo above?
The Tigers are in Orange County for four consecutive night games. Which, you know, sucks. I'm not sure how many innings of baseball any of us will actually see over the next few days. However, I can tell you BigAl has graciously stepped up and pledged to watch the games and do recaps while the rest of us sleep. We owe him a big thank-you for that. On to the links:
- MLive: Tigers will be greeted by familiar face in Fernando Rodney when facing Angels
He's been doing pretty well lately for the Angels. Hopefully the Tigers don't put him in position to have a save opportunity, but if they do it would be great to see the Rodney of old giving up baserunners.
-
MLB.com: Laird frustrated with runners' success
Fans aren't the only ones annoyed with Gerald Laird's sudden loss of throwing base stealers out. - MLive: Tigers' Bobby Seay, Zach Miner continue to rehab in Lakeland
Both sound awhile out. Seay is obviously a lot farther out, as he attempts to rehab from a career-threatening injury. -
DetNews: Austin Jackson, Barbaro Garbey have something in common
According to Tom Gage:Tigers rookie center fielder Austin Jackson went into Saturday night's game with five multiple-hit games in the nine he's played as a major leaguer. He's the sixth Tiger since at least 1920 to have five in his first nine -- the most recent being Barbaro Garbey in 1984.
- Freep: Catching up with Tigers great Rocky Colavito
- The Daily News of Bowling Green caught up with Wade Gaynor
Gaynor, you probably remember, was a 2009 draftee of the Tigers and is playing in West Michigan

How come
every time I see Eric Byrnes he looks ridiculous and is in the full eagle position regardless of what just happened? Literally EVERY TIME.
You should see his wedding photos...
Ridiculous…

it looks like
He is trying to bite Avila on the arm. Must be hungry.

power rankings
i’m not sure why i care about power rankings but i look forward to them every monday.
last week i thought espn would have them in the 7-11 range and they were surprisingly 5th. even after a disappointing 2 wins week (2 games worse than expected) i think the tigers are going to stay in the 7-11 range. After the top 6 teams, it’s pretty difficult to differentiate between the next 10 or so. I feel that the Tigers have been close in most of their losses (every now and then they leave a RISP), so I think their forecast is still pretty good. It would be nice if CLE can sweep again this week.
1) NYY
2) TB
3) MIN
4) PHI
5) STL
6) SFO
I will be attending all four games in Anaheim
I have tickets about ten rows behind the Tiger dugout for this series, and I’m stoked!
nice
that’s where I sat when I went last year (I used to live in OC so I used the august tigers series as an excuse to visit). have fun!

You'll have a report, no problem.
But things tend to happen after the game, so I may not meet a deadline. Hah!
No August series this year. Only the four games in April. But we get the Tigers back out here in LA in May. I’ll get to at least two of that series.
I like that Rodney article
he doesn’t seem like a goofy guy when you see him on TV. It’s nice to see he recommended Valverde to the Tigers too, a great gesture to the team.
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
There was something in the air that night, Fernando. I could hear the distract drums fernando. Heres hoping we dont see fernando, because most likely if we’re seeing him were behind. But, I wish him luck other then when he plays us. How about Robertson 2-0 guys?
Even the Army has a Coke problem
Phil Coke visited with his older brother, Army Sgt. Nathan Coke, at Safeco Field on Friday night. He also has a younger brother Robert who is in the Coast Guard.

Fernando?
More like Fernandon’t! Sorry, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to use that. I’m surprised that I kind of miss Rodney.
Seems to be the same old Fernando...
3 for 3 in save opps & a 6.00 ERA… i’ll tip my cap sideways to that…

Also as usual
The one time this year he was really roughed up came in a non-save situation before he was named the closer. Other than that he’s been nearly perfect so far.

Where have you gone daygames?
I’m sorry I treated you wrong and belittled your benefit. My work days just don’t go by as quickly without you… Won’t you come home? Away from those awful west coast night games? Nothing good happens that late, you know that honey…

I love west coast night games.
I live on the west coast. I hate east coast day games; those should be banned.
Dontrelle Willis apologist.
I'm with you
I really want them to hit the crap out of Rodney… I love the heart attack inducing bastard, but this is war baseball.

Dtrain needs to follow Max's lead
and build off that win from yesterday. Hopefully the offense can come out and support him enough to notch his first win tonight. Everyone keeps makin a big deal about Rodney, but I hope we don’t need him to blow a save or to see him at all… let’s just win it by scoring during the other 8 innings
Rodney was underrated
And we’ll see it once we are down in the 9th and he comes in and gives us a tantalizing chance at victory then slams the door in our face. That change up toys with you.
If he does that to us...
The phrase “THEY WERE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!” comes to mind.

Oh crap! My shades!
That’s my caption for the Avila/Byrnes picture…even though the sunglasses may well have come off Byrnes’ face when Avila nailed him with the elbow…
