MLM Recap: Dan Fields, Billy Nowlin lead Lakeland rampage

First, promotion news. Deik Scram got called up to AAA Toledo to replace Brennan Boesch (and Ryan Streiby, who hit the DL with wrist pain, and Christopher White got called up to AA now to replace Scram. Nick Underhill has a full list of the organizational moves here.

AAA: Columbus 7, Toledo 1

Phil Dumatriat (5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K) had a bad night, and Dan Schlereth (2 IP, 1H 2 BB, 2K, ER) and Josh Rainwater (1IP, 1ER, 1HR) didn't help things. The offense was pretty mediocre too- Deik Scram went 2-4 with 2 doubles and Will Rhymes was 2-4.

AA: Erie 4, Altoona 3

Jon Kibler had a mediocre start (3 BB, a HR and 2K), but he went 6.2 innings, only giving up 3 earned runs, so he (or his defense) kept the team in the game. Ryan Ketchner pitched 2.1 hitless innings with a strikeout. Max St. Pierre went 1-2 with a homer and two walks.

A+: Lakeland 13, Tampa 7

Well, the pitching was mediocre here. Luke Putkonen left after 1.1 innings and 2 earned runs (which suggests something bad happened- injury or otherwise). The bullpen was lit up for the 5 additional runs, but the real story here is the offense. Rawley Bishop went 2-4 with a double and a homer, Billy Nowlin went 3-5 and Daniel Fields went 2-5 with a double. (random aside- I'm quickly falling in love with Daniel Fields. Sure, he has a high BABIP and a high strikeout rate and a small amount of plate appearances, but the fact that he's walking in A-advanced as a 19 year old tickles me to no end- I hope he keeps doing well.)

A: South Bend 3, West Michigan 0

Jade Todd had a pretty good start- 2 runs (1 earned) over 7 innings on 4 hits and a walk with 7 strikeouts. But the offense let him down, and he caught the loss. Wade Gaynor was 1-3 with a walk, and that made him the offensive superstar in this one.
