Open thread: Projections and expectations for 2010

It's that time of the year when all the regular baseball writers of the the world stick their neck out by pretending they have a clue what's going to happen in the regular season about to start.

In truth, the fun of the season (and these predictions) is that nothing ever goes as planned. The front runners sometimes stumble, and the nobodies (both teams and individuals) delight with their surprise play.

We present you what will (probably not) happen during the 2010 MLB season:

Tigers predictions

Kurt Alli Big Al
Mike
Best surprise Austin Jackson will play better than expected Eddie Bonine will become a competent 5th starter when...

Jim Leyland gives Clete Thomas less than 50 AB's in the 3 spot.

Best pitcher Max Scherzer Justin Verlander Justin Verlander Justin Verlander
Best position player Miguel Cabrera Miguel Cabrera Miguel Cabrera, duh. Miguel Cabrera.
Record: 82-80 84-78 84-78 79-82

A lot of questions right now

For instance, why “no edit mode:59-102”
Also, why can the universe allow Michigan State to lose?
But more importantly….I see that Jack Cust just got designated. Why not pick em up? We need a bat yeah?

by Flying J on Apr 4, 2010 12:40 PM EDT reply actions

No wrong reason re: Cust

Is Glass Carlos ok from whatever he tweaked earlier this week?

by handsomerob1 on Apr 4, 2010 12:46 PM EDT up reply actions

I say...

we sign Cust and dress all of our opposing pitchers in Tigers’ uniforms.

by Flying J on Apr 4, 2010 1:06 PM EDT up reply actions

lmao,

NOW THERE is a strategy that would work. Heck, we could sign Luke Scott, Russel Branyan, hmmm, my mind should be exploding with Tiger killers….nope, brain isn’t working yet. Span, Thome, man this list is getting depressing. Everyone I keep thinking of (except Scott) plays in our division.

oh and

Austin Jackson hits pretty well in AAA but is traded for a AA left-handed relief prospect before the deadline or in offseason.

ummm

I think I kinda sound like a bitter crank…. so I chnage my Ausitn Jackson line to .270, .345, .410 and 22 of 27 stealing with above defense based on first hand accounts of his AB`s in spring. He sticks but Maggs and Carlos get hurt early opening the door for Delgado and Strieby. Also, Avila gets more AB`s and Iorg provides a jolt at SS in Septmeber and the pitching staff stays the course and the Tigers win 84 games … finishing 5 games back of Minnesota.

Cale Iorg doesn't own a bat.

He owns a toothpick because he’s been shoved through the system so fast he didn’t have time to order bats.

Dontrelle Willis apologist.
