Florida Marlins Box Score
For those of you that missed it, there were a few former Tigers who performed well for the Marlins yesterday:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/boxscore?gameId=300408121
Cameron Maybin, Cody Ross, Nate Robertson, and Burke Badenhop. At least the Tigers are only paying the salary for one of those players this year, albeit $9.6.
Thursday was equally good for two guys named Miguel Cabrera and Dontrell Willis too... so at least for one day, this seems to have evened out.

Maybin will be good, but it’ll take a little while.

Maybin could be good......
……who do you think will be the better pro….Maybin or Ajax?

still making definitive statements?
Maybin will (probably) be good. (But nothing is guaranteed in baseball).

*sigh
Okay- barring injury, Maybin will be good. And yes, that statement is definitive for a reason.

Disagree about Maybin.
I’m not a fan.

Why?
Is it the K rate?

Partially.
I think K’s are overrated for the most part, but that’s mostly for guys like Mark Reynolds or Adam Dunn – supplement it with big power and BB rates.
My biggest beef is Maybin’s power upside. I don’t think there’s any there without an overhaul of his swing. He’s around the 55% GB% marks and that puts him with a bevy of light-hitting SS’s like Elvis Andrus and Christian Guzman. Only Hunter Pence hits more than 50% GB’s in 2009 and hit for above-average power.
So, I think Maybin’s power is really limited until he gets the ball in the air more (which is possible, for sure).
So if he’s K’ing a ton and not hitting for power, he needs to be a walk machine and he’s about league average at that.
Basically, he needs to be a plus defender with good value on the base paths (which he could do, save for his arm in CF). I think he’s likely to be more Luis Castillo in CF than he is to be the next 4 or 5-tool player to breakout.
Loads of potential but I think it’ll largely go untapped.

Jackson>Maybin
nice to see Robertson doing well so far. Kinda funny miller isn’t even in their rotation. Burke badenhop is a beast! Loved watching him pitch in Lakeland. Glad the sinker ball reliever is even a regular in their pen now. Cool nickname too… “hopper”
