MLM Recap: Charlie Furbush leads Lakeland over St. Lucie
Quick link to start out the day: DD is keeping Jacob Turner at West Michigan for a while longer. Good news. Now onto the boxes.
Max Scherzer dominated Durham over 8 innings- he let up 1 hit and 1 walk with 10 strikeouts. Robbie Weinhardt went 1 inning with 1 hit allowed. Ryan Raburn was 2-4 with a double, and Jeff Frazier was 2-3 with a double and a homer.
Thad Weber went 7.2 innings, allowing 4 earned runs off 5 hits, 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Cesar Nicolas was 1-3 with a walk, and the offense disappointed- so he's the offensive star.
A+: Lakeland 5, St. Lucie 4 (11 innings)
Charlie Furbush had a great start today- 6.2 innings, with 2 runs allowed on 2 hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts. Gustavo Nunez was 3-6 with a double, Brent Wyatt was 2-4 with a double and 2 walks and Daniel Fields was 2-5 with a double and a triple.
A: Lake County 15, West Michigan 5
Ramon Lebron got lit up in 3 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned) with 6 hits and 4 walks. Wade Gaynor was 1-5 with a double and Herman Perez was 2-4.

in response to how quickly Max should be brought back up…(my comment btw)
I say give him another outing…
see if he repeats his success. If this was more mechanics than some other thing (my guess mechanics) it’s best to really make sure he has a good rhythm with it before bringing him back up. Confidence is always key to a pitcher and there is never confidence in change. Let him develop some success and thus confidence with whatever he’s doing than get him back up here.
(I just didn’t feel like reiterating when the conversation here eventually goes there :P)

Wow that's great for Maxs' mojo
We all know he is better than the lines he’s posted the last month. His first three starts were GREAT!
Curious if Allikazoo watched the game?

I watched some of it
well, all of it but I was doing other stuff.
he looked great to me. he completely baffled the Bulls’ hitters.. they are on the verge of being swept though, so might be a bad week for them anyway. since there was only one walk, I’m thinking they may be well on their way to fixing whatever was wrong. I did not catch the Toledo announcers saying anything about velocity, though. I hate that the broadcast doesn’t post it.

Great recap David!
I drove my tired a** to the Lakeland game last night & I sure was happy I went.
I love watching Furbush pitch!
I finally got a Danny Fields ball signed too.. Nice Kid, great sense of humor.
I hear you that Turner prob should stay in WM. I’m selfish though and I’d like him to come to Lakeland! Imigane how great our rotation will be when Crosby comes back and Turner gets promoted. With Furbush and Villareal as well!

I’m not getting anything from the national press…

IDK... im going back on sunday w/ my dad. if i see him i'll ask.
It’s funny though…
Believe it or not, often the starting pitchers (even if they are not on the DL) will dress in casual clothes and sit in the stands to scout the other teams.
I know you think i’m pulling your leg but im not. I have know idea why they do it but sometimes they will chat with some of the regular fans. (honestly some nights it feels like there is less than a hundred people at the games on weeknights.
It is pretty cool though.. I got to know Burke Badenhop (current FLA MARLIN) pretty good while he was a tiger that season. I don’t really bother the big name players because they are normaly not very friendly. You get to know them pretty good though through the season as they have functions such as dinners and outings with the team for season ticket holders.
At any rate i’ll ask around. If you ever want various game pics let me know and i’ll send them to ya.
If you can get pictures, that'd be great
I can figure out how to imbed the things.

Turner staying in West Mich made my week
that’s right… more than the Tiger’s sweep of the A’s. DO NOT RUSH TURNER…. Please.

John Wagner of the Toledo Blade has more on Scherzer and Guillen
http://www.toledoblade.com/article/20100521/SPORTS07/5210386/-1/SPORTS
He says Scherzer was in the 92-95 MPH range most of the night, for those of you wondering about velocity. I missed the outing myself, but they are re-airing it here in Toledo at noon, so I’m going to take a look at it and see what was working for him.
Also, Carlos Guillen paid for last night’s postgame spread for everyone by arranging for PF Chang’s to cater. I thought that was an amusing little tidbit they threw in there.

Only a matter of time for Max
He’s got so much talent and the stuff to be a very effective major league pitcher… he just needed to put it all together. Hopefully these few triple A starts will allow him to do so
Thanx Alli & SabreRose
I appreciate the first hand reports.
I’m finally buying a MacBook today so I think I’m gonna buy the MiLB package.
Pretty cool to hear that Carlos is taking care of the youngsters…he sure can afford it.
Anyone out there attend any Erie games?

Took a look at the replay of last night's game
I didn’t watch all of it but Max looked pretty strong. He probably should have a couple more starts for the Hens, though. In the early innings, he went to a three-ball count on several batters and quite a few of the early strikeouts were on pitches that were way out of the zone and I’m not sure a big league hitter would swing at those. However, he looked really good from about the third or fourth inning onwards. Overall, a very encouraging start.
