First, a link to begin the morning. Matt Wallace takes a look at second base within the Tigers farm clubs and finds that our best hope for the future- is Scott Sizemore.
Onto the boxes!
This one isn't really Toledo's fault- they were facing Stephen Strasburg, and was it any wonder that they got outpitched? Lauren Gagnier gave it a shot in 5.2 innings, giving up 6 runs on 6 hits (including a homer), 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Ryan Ketchner went 1 hitless inning with a strikeout, and Josh Rainwater went 1.1 innings giving up a hit and striking out one. Jeff Frazier was 3-4 with a double, and Deik Scram was 1-4 with a triple.
Duane Below didn't get hit very hard, but he walked too many- in 3.2 innings, he gave up 5 runs on 3 walks and 3 hits with only 2 strikeouts. Cesar Nicolas and Michael Bertram were both 2-4 with a double each, and Josh Burrus was 2-4 with a homer.
Adam Wilk went 8 strong innings, giving up only one run on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts. Daniel Fields was 0-2 but walked twice, and Julio Rodriguez was 2-4.
A: Fort Wayne 3, West Michigan 2
Trevor Feeney didn't have a bad start- he went 8 innings, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits (including a homer) and a walk with 6 strikeouts. Jordan Lennarton was 3-5 with 2 doubles and Alexis Espinosa was also 3-5.
