MLM Recap: Jacob Turner gets his first win as West Michigan beats Lansing 4-2

AAA: Buffalo 8, Toledo 7

This one has kind of a wacky set of pitching performances. Ruddy Lugo went 5 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 5 hits (including 2 homers). He was relieved by Scot Drucker, who gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit and a strikeout in one inning. Dan Schlereth then came in for 0.2 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits, thus securing himself a hold. Casey Fien went on to pitch the last inning of the game and then some- the game went into extras. He let up 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 strikeout in his 1.2 innings. And was charged with the blown save. Josh Rainwater then came on and let up a home run on the only batter he faced to catch the loss. I'm not exactly sure how Fien blew the save, but that's what happened. Offensively, Ben Guez was 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk, Ryan Streiby was 2-4 with a walk and Jeff Frazier was 1-5 with a homer.

AA: Erie @ Trenton suspended in the 3rd

Shame- Brooks Brown went 3 innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 3.

A+: Palm Beach 5, Lakeland 4

Ugh. Luke Sorensen went 7 innings, but gave up 5 earned runs on 9 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Wilfredo Ramirez went 1 inning, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. Alden Carrithers was 2-4 with 2 doubles.

A: West Michigan 4, Lansing 2

Jacob Turner got his first professional win, as he went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs off 7 hits (one a homer) and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. His ERA is up to 4.15, but his FIP is at 2.70, which is good. Kenny Faulk pitched 1.1 hitless innings with 2 strikeouts. Avisail Garcia was 2-3 with a walk.

Mike Hessman... now that sounds familiar

I briefly looked at the Box Score for the AAA Toledo game yesterday and noticed this familiar name – Hessman. Check out these statistics for the old man playing 3B with AAA Buffalo (NY Mets):

.310 AVG, 36 R, 54 H, 16 2B, 16 HR, 51 RBI, 22 BB, 40 SO, .391 OBP, .678 SLG, 1.069 OPS

It was too bad he could not find his way in Detroit – I always thought he had a lot of potential.

Oh well, good thing we have Brandon tearing it up at 3B these days.

I miss Mike.

I remember his first call up fondly.
