MLM 2 Day Recap: Toledo sweeps doubleheader powered by Clete Thomas's homer

Bit to catch up on, but only one day until I get to return to normalcy.

AAA: May 4: Toledo 3, Charlotte 1 (Game 1)

Phil Dumatrait pitched his team to victory, giving up 1 run in 6.1 innings with 4 hits and a walk with 2 strikeouts. Jay Sborz pitched 0.2 innings to pick up the save, walking one and striking out one. Will Rhymes was 2-3 with a double and Jeff Frazier was 2-3 with a homer.

May 4: Toledo 8, Charlotte 3 (Game 2)

This start was a mishmash of bullpen pitchers due to the rainout the previous day. Ryan Ketchner started and went 2, allowing 1 hit with 3 strikeouts. Josh Rainwater was next up, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) over 3 innings on 7 hits and 3 strikeouts. Casey Fien pitched 2 shutout, 1 hit innings and struck out a guy, and Dan Scherleth picked up the win on 2 innings of one-hit ball, with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Clete Thomas was 1-3 with a homer.

AA: May 4: Binghamton 4, Erie 3

Andy Oliver started and went 5.2 innings, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits (including a homer) and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts. Luis Marte pitched a hitless inning with a strikeout. Justin Henry was 2-3 with a triple and Cale Iorg walked again.

May 5: Erie 4, Binghamton 2

Jon Kibler only went 4 innings in this one, giving up 2 runs on 5 hits (2 homers), 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Zach Simons was the hero in this one, striking out 5 over 3 innings, only giving up a walk. Cale Iorg was 2-4 and Michael Bertram was 2-4 with a double.

A+: May 4: Lakeland 7, Dayton 3

Strong start by Charlie Furbush, who went 7 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks with 7 strikeouts. Gustavo Nunez was 3-4 with a double and a walk, and Julio Rodriguez went 2-4 with a homer.

May 5: Dayton 4, Lakeland 3

Luke Putkonen went 6 innings, giving up 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. Rawley Bishop went 1-3 with a homer and Brent Wyatt went 3-4.

A: May 4: West Michigan 5, Great Lakes 4

Trevor Feeney went 8 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits (including a homer) and 2 walks while striking out 7. Mike Gosse was 2-4 with 2 doubles and Wade Gaynor was 2-5.

May 5: Great Lakes 8, West Michigan 6

Jacob Turner got unlucky- 3.2 innings yielding 4 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits (including a homer) and a walk with 3 strikeouts. Luis Sanz went 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit, walking 2 and striking out 2. Jamie Johnson was 2-3 with 2 walks and Michael Rockett was 2-5 with a double.

FYI

His strikeout rates and walk rates are in line with his career numbers- which is to say they blow.

Jacob Turner

Not only were just 2 of those runs earned, but they were both inherited runners. He left with his team winning 6-2 in the 4th inning with 2 outs (only 2 runs the Loons had were on a home run following an error which put a man on), and a while later it was still in the 4th inning with 2 outs, but his team was losing 8-6. Suspect defense was pretty common for West Michigan and they left 12 on base.

That's at least good

Did he leave early due to pitch counts?

Fatigue due to his lack of pitching recently. His arm felt “great” to him, so that’s good news.

You're not seeing things.

The box score does show a homer for Rockett.

haha, okay

it’s been a long week and I may have been watching something else, I honestly wasn’t sure. I recall the announcer saying it went a long way, too.
