MLM Recap: Brooks Brown throws a complete game

AAA: Norfolk 6, Toledo 3

Ryan Ketchner went 6.1 innings, giving up 1 unearned run on 6 hits and a walk with 5 strikeouts. Jeff Larish was 1-3 with a homer, Brent Dlugach was 2-5 with 2 steals and Jeff Frazier was 2-4 with 2 steals. Wilkin Ramirez was also back in the lineup playing right field- he was 1-4 with 2 strikeouts.

AA: Erie 5, Portland 1

Brooks Brown went a full 9 inning game, giving up 1 earned run on 5 hits, a walk and 5 strikeouts. Deik Scram was 1-2 with a home run and 2 walks.

A+: Brevard County 5, Lakeland 2 (Game 1)

Luke Sorensen ate 7 innings for the Flying Tigers, giving up 5 runs on 9 hits (including 2 homers) while walking 1 and striking out 4. Francisco Martinez was 1-4 with a double and Alden Carrithers was 1-3 with a walk.

Lakeland 1, Brevard County 0 (Game 2)

Wilfredo Ramirez threw 3 innings of 1 hit ball in a spot start, striking out 4. The strong pitching performance was continued by Jose Ortega (3 IP, H, K) and Tyler Conn (IP, K). Billy Nowlin provided the offense- he was 1-2 with a homer. Alden Carrithers was 2-3.

A: West Michigan 1, Lake County 0 (11 innings)

Ramon Lebron went 5 strong innings, giving up 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 4. Richard Zumaya, brother of Joel Zumaya, went 2 innings, giving up 1 walk. Kenny Faulk got the save, throwing 1 innings and giving up a hit and striking out 2.

I sure hope that Richard Zumaya is able to turn things around this year at WM – I pulled up his ERA for the last 3 years and could not believe how high those numbers were in Low A Ball. I think it is safe to say we will not see a brother combo any time soon, but it might help us in contract negotiations to keep him on the payroll.
