MLM Recap: Will Rhymes goes 4-5 with a triple for Toledo
Freaking Indy. Ryan Ketchner was victimized by bad defense- he went 5.1 innings and gave up 4 runs on 8 hits, but only 2 of the runs were earned and his 6 strikeouts were a nice bonus. Will Rhymes was 4-5 with a triple and Casper Wells was 1-3 with a double and a walk.
More bad news. This time, it comes courtesy of Brooks Brown, who went 2.2 innings, allowing 9 earned runs on 7 hits and 4 walks. Kudos go to Cory Hamilton, who played stopper for 4.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits (the earned run was a homer) and 3 strikeouts. The homer did allow two of Brown's runs to score though, so it wasn't stellar. Michael Bertram and Andy Bouchie were both 1-4 with a homer apiece.
A+: Lakeland @ Tampa Postponed
A: South Bend 1, West Michigan 0
A spot start for Nate Newman today. He went 4 innings, giving up 1 run on 3 hits and a walk with 4 strikeouts. Zach Samuels pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and 4 strikeouts. Jamie Johnson was 2-3 with 2 walks (and it's about time he gets promoted).
Clemente Mendoza went 6 innings, giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits (2 homers) and 4 walks with 5 strikeouts. Of more importance (no offense to Mr. Mendoza), Robbie Weinhardt pitched 2 hitless innings, striking out 3. Brennan Smith pitched 1 inning, walking 1 and striking out 2. Josh Ashenbrenner was 2-3 with a triple and a walk.

Crosby also got cuffed around a bit in the GCL (and Erie played two).
Sometimes I wonder if a guy like Jamie Johnson suffers because the front office is afraid of what would happen to the team if he were to leave. For example, the Tigers want to take care of their young pitchers so they leave them a solid center fielder and maybe somebody who can help spark the offense.
Is Crosby on a starters schedule in the GCL
Or is he coming out of the ’pen?
And thanks for the heads up on Erie- I thought something was up (the main site showed they won a game they lost, which is usually an indicator of a doubleheader).

He’s started both games so far (seemingly scheduled as if he were in the rotation), and I think both have lasted about four innings. I think the fact they’re getting his arm ready for being in a rotation is a good sign. I’m hoping the patchwork rotation in Erie is a sign of moves to come as well.

I'd say that Crosby still goes to Hi A
There’s at least two Lakeland starters (Adam Wilk and Brayan Villareal) that deserve promotion before Crosby.

Agreed
I was talking about somebody being bumped up when Crosby came to Lakeland.

Fair enough.
Erie needs pitching badly.

That they do. Shawler and Garcia in the rotation isn’t going to cut it. Has anybody else noticed Brooks Brown hasn’t pitched in almost two weeks? Is there a story there I missed? Why not put him on the DL?
Because he pitched today

Really?
I assumed those 2.2 innings came back on 6/6 when that game started. Looking at MiLB, it seems his last game was 6/22 but for some reason they’re not showing it. They show his last game as 6/17, which was the reason I wondered why he hadn’t pitched in almost two weeks.
