Brennan Boesch now eligible for the leader boards
Brennan Boesch started the season a bit late, so he wasn't yet eligible for the leader boards. Until now.
So here's where one of our favorite rookies ranks among the American League leaders:
- Average: 4th, .342
- Slugging Average: 4th, .593
- OPS: 4th, .990
- wOBA: 4th, .426 (FYI: 5th in the MLB)
- On-Base Percentage: 5th, .397
- RBI: 24th, 49 (tied with all-star Nick Swisher)
- HR: 28th, 12

Something about remorse, pity, fear
and not stopping until you are dead. Seems like a long time ago that I went with the Terminator reference, and he’s still…terminating.

I thought we've already settled this
He was swept up in pre-World Cup fever and tried to head the ball back to the infield!

FWIW he was already eligible with the counting stats
Now the rate stats are kosher.

Someone once asked me when Boesch would be eligible for the RBI and HR leaderboards
I didn’t really know how to respond to that one.
You don't need any number of plate appearances or at bats to qualify for titles in cumulative stats.
The guy with the most home runs or RBI wins those “titles”. Pretty easy.
But to qualify for the Batting title, which is an average, a player needs 502 plate appearances (3.1 plate appearances for every game his team plays, to be exact). A pitcher needs 162 innings to qualify for the ERA title.
yeah
but I threw the counting stats in for people who were curious about how the other two traditional stats stacked up with the league.

I wish Boesch was in the HR Derby
He’d put on a show.
At the game on Saturday...
…my brother, dad and I were walking towards the park down John R, and out of a big bus comes a swarm of about a dozen guys, all wearing navy Boesch t-shirt/jersey shirt dealies (what’s the name for those things, anyway?). Turns out they were part of a bachelor party and they wanted to all have matching shirts — they picked a good one! Regardless of the circumstances, though, it’s hilarious to see a huge group of people all wearing a shirt representing the same guy.

I call them jersey shirts
“shirsey” is my pet name for our #2 starter, although I usually spell it differently.
We got 1 - 2 in ROY!!!!
Bodes well for the future.
