Scherzer spins near shutout: Tigers 7, Mariners 1
It's July 4 weekend, so forgive me for an abbreviated recap tonight.
Max Scherzer was on his game. Only a fastball deposited in the stands by Franklin Gutierrez stood between Scherzer and a shutout appearance. He went eight inning on 109 pitches for the longest appearance of his young career. He also struck out seven and allowed three hits.
Even without Miguel Cabrera in the lineup -- a late scratch with soreness in his back -- the Tigers managed to put together their fair share of runs. A key double by Don Kelly in the second inning put two on the board, then Austin Jackson added another pair. Johnny Damon homered.
Brennan Boesch was key all over the place with three hits and a terrific catch and throw in the ninth inning to help turn a double play behind Phil Coke.

Yeah, that Boesch character is pretty basic
I’m not sure why they called him up! He’s nothing more than a Quad-A player.
HaHaHa
Continues to suprise me

I know the Mariners are the worst offense in the AL
But 8 IP of 1 run ball from Max is a welcome sight. 7 Ks, 2 BB, and less baserunners than IP? Yeah, I’ll take that against anyone.
Less baserunners than Jackson’s no-no, lol.
Yay for the win!
Ugh that the Twins won.

Great Game!
Bummer that the Rays lost. I thought we may get even with the Twinkies.
