Losing streak hits seven: Rangers 8, Tigers 0
Tweet of the night?
there was a baseball game played in Detroit tonight unfortunately the tigers didn't hear about it and failed to show up
That's probably about all you can say about the game. ... But I have to say a bit more, so here goes.
Armando Galarraga was, what is the word? I'm going with "inconsistent." He gave up four runs, three pretty quick. In the middle he mowed through the Rangers' lineup. Casey Fien got lit up pretty bad, too.
Not that it mattered. The Tigers rapped out four hits. They threatened but failed to score, our new motto around here, well twice I guess. Although as poorly as they were batting I'd hardly call getting a runner to second three times a big threat.
Pep talk time.
Every team has a winning streak. Every team has a losing streak. The Tigers are in the midst of their losing streak. So when it gets ugly, it gets real ugly.
Losing seven in a row during the season but still making the postseason isn't unheard of. It's happened several times in the Central division alone in the past decade. And Detroit's still only a handful of games out of first.
So it's not the end of the world. Yet anyway.
But it sure puts pressure on the general manager to make some pretty high-pressure decisions in the next 10 days, doesn't it?

masochism (mas-uh-kiz-uhm)

Sometimes a picture is all you need as a definition
Welcome to Detroit, NO sissies allowed
and we are quite experienced with the thin part of that equation
so this is really nothing new!

At least there are some bright spots,
Miggy’s MVP and TC run, and our 2 outstanding rooks, Jackson and Boesch!
Actually, I think this

Serious question
At what point do the Tigers decide to field offers or become sellers?

they should be active in both directions
I honestly don’t think it’s worth selling any pieces and pissing off the fans, because they’re not going to get much in return for any of the players other teams might almost kinda want. Small gain, big PR loss.

Damon might fetch something nice
Same with Bondo, maybe even Laird (you laugh, but there’s not that much out there for catcihng).

They'll leave Ryan Raburn in a box, outside of Comerica.
Free to anyone that will take him… dear lord, someone take him.

Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. I think I'll stop picking Tigers.

I respect your opinion
But I can’t see anyone wanting Laird for anything beyond a waiver claim. Bondo maybe, but he’d be like fifteenth choice for a contending team. Damon should probably be moved even if the team decides to buy. Guillen needs to DH, and the only way that happens is if either Boesch or Damon is moved. If Damon can be moved for a piece that helps get Haren, that needs to be done.
Lost Your Mind Boesch is the Future
Boesch is the Tigers future, so is Verlander, Cabrera, Valverde, everyone else can take a ticket elsewhere.

If Johnny leaves,
I will die inside.
In a long distance relationship with the Tigers--and, yes, we're doing fine.
Damon probably has the highest value of our pending FA's
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. I think I'll stop picking Tigers.
Never
Offers for whom? There’s nobody to sell!
You might get a B level prospect for Damon, but any of the players that have any real value are guys that we want back next year.
Besides, I’m not giving up on this season. Not by a long shot. A couple games off the lead in July is no reason to panic. Losing Brandon Inge is no reason to panic. Chicago going on a streak is no reason to panic. The Tigers are in this race for the duration. Buckle up and get ready for the ride.
I agree in sentiment.
But there are too many holes to do anything but pretend in the Central (and everyone in the central is populating the land of make believe) and get bounced in the playoffs.
Of course, if we can get our AAAA affiliate in Phoenix to give up the goods…

That's why I'd focus more on moves that help the future as well as the present.
I’d aim for players on non contenders who are due for arbitration or scheduled salary increases. Players under “club control” for a few seasons. Not just rentals. I would not trade decent prospects for rentals. Nothing wrong with a rental if it’s just a club dumping salary rather than pay the guy when they’re not in the race (like a Huff or Washburn, only better :))
The Tigers need what this season?
SP, 3B, SS, C, RP. In that order IMO.
They’ll probably leave Avila to try out behind the plate, and Worth at SS unless they can land a clear upgrade.
The Tigers have holes to fill next season where?
SP, 3B, SS, C, RP. In that order IMO, except add in the very important No. 2 hitter that will be needed if and when Damon leaves. That could be any one of those positions, or could be the DH. Preferably one of those positions, so that Maggs and Guillen could sing half of their swan songs from the DH spot.
losing streak
as I recall, this same thing happened last year. The Tigers lost a bunch of games after the all star break, and Leyland took the blame, saying that it was his fault that the team was not ready to play. Could there be a pattern here? What does that say about Leyland?
we're not going to play the blame leyland game again are we?
This gets tiresome.
Sure swap out Leyland but you’re just changing the paint on a 93 Chevy Cavalier and not dealing with any of the real problems.

OUCH!
Carl Crawford is day-to-day with a testicular contusion.
I guess you could say that someone busted his balls!
Didn’t have a proper place to post this. So I dropped it here.
Adrian Beltre
Didn’t used to wear a cup. Took a hard grounder in the ‘area’, got a ruptured testicle, and finished the game.
Shockingly, Beltre STILL doesn't wear a cup
Even after a banana split with crushed nuts.

Baseball makes me sad. :(
But I had a great time anyway. Even losing baseball is improved with good company to talk to.

On the bright side
If this keeps up we don’t have to worry about what prospects we might give up in a trade
This team isn't as bad as it has looked
Though they do need to do something to offset the loss of Inge. Contrary to what the haters may say, he was having a decent enough season. Seeing Raburn, Kelly, Avila and Worth in the bottom of the order last night illustrated how much Inge is missed.

"they do need to do something to offset the loss of Inge"
The could make Kelly go up to the plate and hit with one hand!
I don't want to be a pessimist,
but there are too many holes to fill. Are the Tigs gonna be buyers or sellers? Spotty pitching, shoddy defense, and anemic hitting with risp are not gonna get it done. DD has his hands full. Only 3.5 games out, what to do? Thoughts, anybody?
Cheap buys or Haren
Haren would be worth some of the prospects since we can keep him for 2 or 3 years and would give us a much better chance this year. Beyond that, I think we’ll get a bullpen arm and someone like Tejada or Peralta that can play 3B/SS.
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. I think I'll stop picking Tigers.
Remember the group YES in 1984 - the song is CHANGES...........
By the way, that was the time that the tigers won the world series in 1984, go fugure under ‘’SPARKY ANDERSEN’’ as manager…anyway, most appropriate – CHANGES but not just flyby changes but true changes

Is this what it feels like to be a Pirates fan?
Baseball statistics are like a girl in a bikini. They show a lot, but not everything. ~Toby Harrah, 1983
compare 1984 to 2006........
everything is clicking both in 84 & 06 expect in 06 tigers almost won but the 06 tigers was’nt experience enough and they show that, in 84 tigers was experience enough differents of two tails and two different detroit tigers clubs, since 84 tigers only made one appearence in post season that will 06 they lost so, has been 26 years and counting.since a world series ring was presented to the motor city. Now , we absolutely need to get back to either 84 or 06 when the tigers was playing their best baseball!
