An ode to Billfer, who stepped aside from DTW today
I think anyone familiar with Tigers blogs knows who Billfer is. His site -- The Detroit Tigers Weblog -- just may have been the first Tigers site you visited. I know it was for me, back before I became a blogger.
I can't speak for everyone, but in my mind he was definitely the Godfather of Tigers blogging and a big inspiration in how to run a site. I know I learned from him, and respected his opinion above all others. Few blogs stick around for more than a season or two. He did it for nine. Again, Bill set the bar high.
But today, he stepped aside from the blogging gig.
I know that's a tough decision to make. But being a daily blogger for years is very, very tough thing to do and the daily grind can go from liberating to a heavy stone around your neck. At that point, it's time to step away. So that's what he did.
You did great, Bill. We wish you well in future endeavors!

Well said, Kurt
Billfer has been the constant voice of the Tigersphere. He built his site from nothing, with no network affiliation, and showed us all the right way to do this blogging thing. Words cannot express my gratitude to billfer and the others like him who paved the way for the rest of us. A true class act. Thanks Bill and good luck to you.
I concur.
The DTW was a great source for level headed commentary and in-depth analysis. I hope he continues to be a part of the community that he helped build.
Good luck to him, he deserves all the good that comes his way.

Man, sad day...
I used to follow along avidly. Great blog, great community, and a great guy.
Best wishes to Bill!
