Can somebody please tell me why we need so many Utility Players?
Why did Scott Sizemore get demoted while Will Rhymes and Danny Worth are still up here?
Why are Will Rhymes and Danny Worth still up here?
Ramon Santiago,Don Kelly,Ryan Raburn,Danny Worth and Will Rhymes are all utility players are they not? they are not supposed to be everyday players correct? am i missing something? Why do we keep Scott Sizemore and Brent Dlugach down in the minors and keep these guys on the roster? Seriously i am completely dumbfounded. Is it because Jim Leyland thinks "They play Baseball how it should be played"?
Seriously the loss of Guillen and Inge shouldn't hurt us all that much specially since we have Peralta now i mean he will probably give us Inge type numbers at the plate and in the field. Guillen looks terrible in the field so you downgrade a little on offense, so what? Maggs hurts the most but maybe Frazier can add a punch to the lineup and even fill in at the 3 spot in our lineup.
I say demote Rhymes and Worth and bring up Sizemore and Dlugach they start 2nd and SS and Santiago backs them up. Kelly can back up Peralta at 3rd.
Are Rhymes and Worth really better than Sizemore and Dlugach?

They're all marginal big leaguers
How can anyone differentiate between them? I doubt Leyland wants any of them in his starting lineup, but flexibility is important when there are fewer bench players on the roster these days. What I’ve seen of Sizemore, and clearly what Tigers management has decided, is he’s a slug.

they are NOT marginal.
Once a guy has spent 6 -7 years in A ball, he’s a minor leaguer. The guys they are bringing up are all over 25 -26yrs. Its because they have no good prospects in our farm system. And we have no players to fill in the gap while we have major league players on the DL. To me a prospect is someone who’s brought up after a year or two in the minors and he’s maybe 22-24 years old. What prospects we do have are all pitchers

I was trying to be kind
and technically, they are major leaguers right now.

i'm sorry Norm
I wasn’t trying to be rude, just realistic…. Norman Cash, Now HE was a true blue major leaguer!

Because Sizemore has clearly been given enough time to prove otherwise.

5 utility players is nuts
I agree that the roster has too many players of similar skills (or lack thereof). I’d rather see Sizemore get some experience at 2B before Leyland goes back to the misguided path of playing Carlos there. I agree with Stormin that management is certainly down on Sizemore and doesn’t want to hand a job to him anymore. But he at least has better projections at the bat than any of the others.
At the beginning of the year I wanted to see Dlugach get a chance since he has reportedly good defense for SS. But his batting projected as Everett at that time and he hasn’t even lived up to that in Toledo.
Leyland needs to pick two guys – one for 2B and one for SS – and stick with them for awhile.
If you look around the organization - that's all we have
We don’t but that’s how they keep building them in the minors. I don’t know who’s in charge of the draft, but they need to get off the pitching and focus on position players who can swing a bat.

all the bad mojo
is the Adam Everett curse.
I ’m not sure if a goat was involved- but bad luck aplenty since June 6 when we kicked Everett to the curb.
2010 games when Everett started = .571 (16 -12)
2010 games Everett did not start = .481 (13 -14)
(only including games til Jun. 6)
and they have been nothing but confused about who to play at 2B and SS since. ….just sayin’
And after June 6, we went on two tears right up until the all-star break.
I don’t think you mean to say we should still be playing Everett, but the only thing Everett related that is causing us to lose games was actually playing him at SS.
no of course it was not serious
i don’t believe in curses.
But the facts show that he wasn’t the problem in winning BUT the Tiger brain trust looked at it as if he WAS the problem. They were wrong, we were better when he played. (ball don’t lie)
Also lately, for example, Leyland has said that if we can just get starting pitching we will be ok — well we have had fine starting pitching – and still losing. wrong assessment there also.
or we don’t want a trade unless it’s a significant upgrade – he doesn’t want to just get “a little bettter”. Then we trade for Jhonny - you tell me whether that is a significant upgrade. I classify it as just a little better.
My conclusion is I am disappointed they don’t seem to know what the problem is, or how to fix it. We are just playing revolving door, trial and error substitutions.
I'll take this one
Will Rhymes is hitting right now.
Don Kelly has no options.
Scott Sizemore can play 2B every day in Toledo.
Dlugach is an afterthought.
Will Rhymes is hitting right now but that doesn't mean he's our best option
Rhymes has a .286 avg—and a .286 OBP. I understand, SSS, but you have to think that even if he took some walks, his .307 wOBA is his ceiling, which is pretty underwhelming.
"Look at Hugo Chavez--Soccer!"
I maintain that Will Rhymes is hitting right now.
Cabrera and Austin aside, no one else is.
Wait, what was that???

Zomg
He’s got an 88+ OPS+ in 21 AB. Clearly he’s irreplaceable.

Sizemore gets to play
everyday at second in Toledo. So, imo he is still in the plans for beyond 2010. Rhymes playing second, brings a certain energy so might as well ride it for now, reminds me of a david eckstein type, Worth makes the plays at short and could be on the bench like Santiago beyond this year.
Tigers just don’t have a “star” quality position player to bring up. This is in part due to DD going after power arms early in the draft the past few years.
None of this happens except for the fact they got completely blindsided with Inge, Maggs, and Carlos going down.
Oh boy!
He gets to play EVERY DAY in Toledo. Instead of getting the major league reps he needs to adjust to the big leagues in a season in which the Tigers probably aren’t going to win the division and sure as hell aren’t going to win the wild card.
Seriously, that’s a horrible argument, especially when you consider that people whine about prospects having to “earn” their stripes by producing in the majors. So instead of seeing if Sizemore can actually play in the bigs, we let him stagnate in AAA. F*cking brilliant.

But he gets to play every day in Toledo after he had his chances in Detroit.
Yeah, I am not a fan of seeing Sizemore left in Toeldo.
Ryan Raburn antagonist.
Scott Sizemore liberationist.
Rhymes has speed and is very good defense 2nd baseball player, and he can hit and bunt, the Tigers need to “bunt” more, if you watch the game last night at Boston you will see it was the bunt by Worth who move the players to 2nd & third and they got two runs out of that, that is why the Tigers need more bunting and keep Rhymes and Worth in the line up. Peralta will bring more “punch” and he is a verteran ball player
The Tigers do not need to bunt more.
Bunting is stupid.

Youkilis doesn't count
The lack of a gigantic douchebag in their lineup makes me think they’re better.
