I must correct something I said earlier
I misunderstood something Mickey Yorke said earlier. As it turns out, the Twins and White Sox are NOT playing each other. The White Sox are playing the A’s and the Twins are playing the Mariners. The meteor can wait, although I don’t have a lot of confidence in Oakland or Seattle.

i know i am alone in this but...
… i would love to see the Tigers sign Beltre this offseason if he declines his player option..
i really think Seattle’s park killed his #’s…..
Great D, a good bat… sounds good to me… plus the A’s tried to sign him, and Beane is very careful with FA signings…
also
if you look at Beltre, he only plays when he’s getting paid in the offseason. not the guy i want on my team.

thats a myth...
every thing i hear about him is he is a hard worker day in day out

look at his numbers in LA…and now in the last year of this contract. there’s a difference between working hard and really concentrating and earning your pay.
by TonyOrlando78 on Jul 30, 2010 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions
whatever
just because he had one great year that happened to be his contract year does not mean he didnt concentrate other years… that is unfair and just untrue…
it may be unfair
but neither you nor I know whether it is untrue, unless you are Beltre.

his bat more than makes up for it....
he was 4.2 WAR last year even with his -7 runs in defense…
I don't care if his WAR was 8 billion; I don't want him behind the plate
I want a guy who can gun runners out behind the plate. Now, I’d take Martinez as a DH, sure…
Doña of the VZ Mafia
by SabreRoseTiger on Jul 30, 2010 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions
thats really not a good way to look at it...
people always say a run saved is as good as a run earned. well it works the other way also..
He only cost his team 7 runs last year, but earned them 28… that is huge at catcher…
Yes, but if he was the DH he wouldn't cost any runs, by that argument
Doña of the VZ Mafia
by SabreRoseTiger on Jul 30, 2010 10:28 PM EDT up reply actions
And what, sub in a catcher that isn't worth as many runs?
You can use the DH to further augment the wins. That swing at the catcher position is huge. You add more by having Martinez at C than at DH.
Ryan Raburn antagonist.
Scott Sizemore liberationist.
not technically...
but he wouldnt be as valuable since catchers are just plain more valuable..
when calculating WAR, catchers receive runs, while DH’s have runs taken away…
Eh.
His bat makes up for his inability to throw out runners. He’ll get you more wins at the plate than he’ll lose by not throwing out runners. The swing, especially at a position like catcher, is huge and more important than a fondness of having a catcher good at throwing out runners.
Ryan Raburn antagonist.
Scott Sizemore liberationist.
That argument's not gonna work, because I'll never be satisfied until another Pudge comes along

Although i wouldn’t expect anything less from a guy named Jhonny

Nolan Ryan: I think Leyland left Valverde out there too long.
Ryan Raburn antagonist.
Scott Sizemore liberationist.
Valverde's ERA for July: 6.75
I think it’s time to downgrade from Papa Grande.

Looking at that grand slam again
Did the woman in the Porcello t-shirt reach out and pull it in? Surprised someone didn’t question it.

After watching Valverde just now
I have decided he is out of his mind, but I still like him.

he's just happy that
A) he didn’t lose the game
B) his arm didn’t fall off / hasn’t fallen off yet
but he’s hard to hate. nobody has their a-game every night
I loved when they asked him when the last time
was he threw 60 pitches and he said weeoeoeeeew I dun know

He's crazy, but a good kind of crazy
I’ll take the bulk of his season over what happen tonight

i haven't watched a lot of postgame analysis but...
G$ sure can talk. after his career, could you see him as an analyst/broadcaster?
idk if he has any managing aspirations, but catchers tend to be good there too.
He would be a nice addition to MLBN

How about replacing Jim Price if we can't get Sean Casey?

Sean Casey also does guest hosting on MLBN
I love when he’s on there. He’s smart and witty. He commentates very well.

i would love to have casey
he was a blast to have in the D, even if it was short-lived.
and i’ll never forget when he tore his calf. his whole leg did the wave. permanently burned into my memory
Sean Casey was the first Tiger that I saw hit a HR in person
August 6, 2007 against the (Devil) Rays.

And, yes, I remember the calf tearing incident
How the hell did that thing heal enough for him to play in the World Series?

no idea
but he was one of the few tigers that actually showed up after their vacation small delay, waiting for the those devil birds from st. louis
He has(d) an epic batting stance
like he was starting a motor cycle

I guess we should just be happy he gave up his grand slam this year.....
when he had a 5-run lead to work with. Otherwise, an entire Saturday of Sportscenters dedicated to Papi’s game-winning grand slam.
true story
but not as much as if it would have been against the yankees. i swear, ESPN gets a hard-on about that series, even in april
I have come to the conclusion
on EPSN there are the Red Sox and the Yankees…. and 28 “other teams”

oh yeah
ha! I forgot about him, which goes to show you how much I watch ESPN. I hate that station. I am an MLBN girl. Love it. After the season ends they show winter ball and then the Caribbean Leagues

I don't get to watch MLBN very often, but I heavily prefer it over ESPN
Plus, it’s all baseball. I don’t have to wait through a bunch of crap about football and Lebron and Tiger Woods to get to the baseball stuff.

you know I used to hate him
but when he hosted the world series, I saw him in a different light. I find him amusing, always entertaining and of course somewhat of an ass. :)

i dislike him on principle
i really do appreciate that he wears his emotions on his sleeve. too much credit is given to political correctness and giving the “right answers.” if you think something went wrong say you’re pissed, not that you “just have to work that much harder next game.” either way, he comes off to me as too high-strung.
i much prefer the light-heartedness that some players exhibit, knowing that they are doing what they want and making good money at it. I’ll never forget watching todd jones spinning fernando rodney in right field before a game while margaritaville played over the stadium speakers.
haha
Ozzie is very high strung on and off the field. I follow him on twitter, sometimes he just says the funniest off the wall things, I can’t help but like him.
