Trade Deadline Open Thread
There is a little over an hour and a half til the trade deadline and there is a lot of action going on out there. I thought we might want a platform for discussion. Are the Tigers going to make any more moves? The next hour and a half could make or break the Tigers season. Will we go for it and trade for Adam Dunn and John Buck, will we send Johnny Damon packing for a couple of prospects, or will we stand pat? Feel free to discuss possible Tigers moves or any other moves out there. Or not.

It looks to me the Cardinals and Diamondbacks are the losers today.
Since it took almost nothing to get Chris Snyder, I wouldn’t have minded trading for him.
fair enough
I always like for pitchers to move from the AL to the NL though. That should help him quite a bit
I expect it to help too.
In the last three years, has there been one case of a pitcher not improving after a switch to the NL? I can’t think of one off the top of my head.

Dodgers acquire Lily and Theriot from Cubs
for second baseman Blake DeWitt and minor league pitchers Brett Wallach and Kyle Smit

I hope the ChiZox hold onto Edwin
I like the chances of our hitters against him more than I like the chances of our pitchers against Dunn

I'm guessing the plan is to start Peralta at short-stop next year.
Maybe we can get him on the treadmill this off-season.

Seems to be the plan, I suspect.
I was hoping for something else but, realistically, I figured no more deals were forthcoming.
Ryan Raburn antagonist.
Scott Sizemore liberationist.
Trading for Hanley is realistic, right?
Why haven’t we heard anything on that from yet?

That would be a really, really stupid plan
A. Bringing back Peralta at all and
B. Playing him at shortstop
A cardboard cutout of Eddie Brinkman has more range

DD to Tiger fans, YOU get nothing and Like it!
No bat to replace Magglio
No shortstop, which you haven’t had since 2006 anyway
No third baseman that is at least average
No starting pitcher
No set up man for the bullpen
It’s just possible that DD still had no money to spend. With the Injuns picking up Peralta’s salary, the Tigers pay nothing additional with their one trade.
Wait til next year.
Trade summary, from what I've pieced together- just the "contenders"
The Yankers get Lance Berkman, Kerry Wood, and Austin Kearns
The T Rays get Chad Qualls
The Red Sox get nothing
The Black Sox get Edwin Jackson
The Twinkies get Matt Capps
The Tigers get Jhonny Peralta
The Rangers get Cliff Lee and Jorge Cantu
The Angels get Dan Haren
The Phillies get Roy Oswalt
The Braves get Kyle Farnsorth, Rick Ankiel, and Wilkin Ramirez
The Cardinals get Jake Westbrook
The Reds get nothing
The Dodgers get Ted Lilly, Ryan Theriot, Octavio Dotel
The Giants get Javier Lopez,
The Padres get Miguel Tejada
The Red Sox
got Saltalamacchia from Texas. To me, that’s a great move

Satalamacchia was once a Brave, then was traded to the Rangers in the Mark Teixiera deal.

Tom Gage seems to hint it was Manny that was close to coming here...
Not sure how we would’ve pulled that off without giving up too much…but it is intriguing.
Gage doesn't know, he can only speculate
DD is teasing us. He keeps things closer to the vest than any GM in any sport.
The fact that he let this out seems to be a “hey guys, I tried”. But the result is “wait til next year”.
Wait til next year, again.
the tigers will mack a trade after the trade deadline maybee pickup up a player like the white sox did laster year.
The selections after the non waiver trade deadline are much more limited.
A player has to clear waivers, or can only be dealt to a club that claims him on waivers and has priority. At least the Tigs can block Dunn or another player from getting to Minnesota or Chicago.
Wait til next year, again.
Or the next Aubrey Huff?
I’m waiting for MLBTR to come out with the list of possible August trade candidates. It almost doesn’t matter at this stage. Although the August deals usually come for very low level prospects because the guys that can clear waivers are just salary dumps anyway, there might be a Rios in there somewhere.
Wait til next year, again.
Junk heap
The Red Sox designated Hermedia for assignment. Lefty bat for RF. If BOST.pays rest of salary see what he can do for next year.
Yeaa Im all for it
I’ve liked him since he was a Marlin

Any propositions of BYB league there ??
Put that in a new fanpost
Better to take the discussion there, IMO.

Yeah
I think there’d be people interested (I’d like to do college football, for instance). Go ahead and start a new fan-post.
