BYB Meet-up Pics/July Open Thread.
So I forgot my camera for the meet-up. Got it all ready, but left it by the computer. But I have a shiny new phone, so I got to take some pics with it. But I didn't get alot and I was gonna just wait for someone else to start a thread but Kurt was all "why don't you start a thread?!" and I was all like "because I'm lazy!" But my genius showed up and I love to display that, so here's our picture thread/July open thread. I figure with all the all star game stuff coming up, this might be useful. Remember to rec this to keep it at the top.
Here's my pics in the link below. I might try to update this with everybody else links too.

Tigers game
This game was a lot of fun. You guys were a great group of people, and Justin Verlander was totally on his game with 10 strikeouts. We got plenty of offense and fireworks as well. Other highlights:
*BYBisms popped up all over the place. We had “This guy’s throwing a SHUTOUT” and “Bingle!” among others.
*When Don Kelly entered the game, Alli was on the concourse somewhere, so we all yelled “Hi Donnie!” for her
*We kept making fun of the super-detailed stats they put up on the scoreboard (such as Casey Kotchmann’s batting average in the seventh inning or later)
*There were two drunk guys trying to get the crowd to start the wave. They were heckled mercilessly by the BYBers.
*I think we were the only group of people yelling “Potato!” when Jose Valverde took the mound.

I haven't posted much yet
in the form of photos OR writing, because I’m just so damn busy. there’s a few pics from the Mud Hens game yesterday on my flickr. eventually I’ll create sets for everything and link to those.. off to my last Tiger game in a minute.

Mud Hens game
Unfortunately, the BYBers couldn’t bring the same mojo to the Hens, who lost their tenth straight game. Rick Porcello had one bad inning where he gave up four runs and only two balls left the infield (one of which was an out), otherwise he looked pretty strong. Larry Parrish was ejected arguing a close play at home plate. And the game actually turned out to be a rematch of the Tigers’ home opener, because the starting pitcher for Columbus was David Huff, but the Hens could do nothing against him. Twice, they had situations where someone doubled with a runner on first, but the runner was held at third and the next guy made an out, stranding two. The highlight of the night was when Alli, Jason, and I met Robbie Weinhardt and Scot Drucker, which was cool.

The Meet Up was great
I will post pics later, when I have picked up my dog and generally recovered.
I went on Sunday too and while the game is best forgotten…after the game, they had a promo where kids 14 and under could run the bases. And as anybody at the meet-up may have noticed—I am a very youthful 32. So finally a lifetime of getting carded, asked where my mom is, having comedians heckle my date for being a pedophile, and otherwise harassed and humiliated…came in handy! I put on my most innocent face, got in line with the kiddies, and RAN THE BASES AT COMERICA PARK!!! Which means I scored exactly as many runs as the Tigers on Sunday!!
Feel free to be insanely jealous.
I wasn't even aware I was trying it until I was about to leave the stadium.
Alli and Frisbee left early to get to the Hens game, so I was on my own. I did take some pictures from on the field (we walked in from right, so I got some from a Maggs-eye perspective), but I can’t find the cord thingie I need to connect the camera with my computer. It’s gotta be around here somewhere, I’ll get the pictures up as soon as I find it.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!
That’s SO COOL! And I am insanely jealous!!!

that is so cool
Way to turn a disadvantage in most cases into an advantage when it will be the most fun.
Despite the heat and miserableness, I wish I’d been there – I could have claimed to be your mom and snap pictures for posterity. :)

Hey, I wasn't carded either.
Although I did manage to sneak my backpack in, while clearly wearing it.

Thank you everyone
for helping to make my first ever game an amazing experience. a couple of things i want to comment on:
*Dale, you looked young enough to run the bases (and then you did!)
*While wanting a first-game hotdog is a fun idea, paying $3.75 for it was a little too much
*FIREWORKS BOOM BOOM EXPLOSIONS
*Loved seeing the game from the right field line. We weren’t in the hot sun for much of it, the weather was awesome, and we had a pretty good view of the strike zone for a few of the batters
*More foul balls should have been hit our way
*I was surprised how quiet the game was until the later innings. most of the fans just sat and watched, with some occasionally clapping. I guess not having rod and mario talking all the time leaves kind of a noise vacuum.
*My two friends, knowing nothing about BYB other than that it was a site for tigers fans, had a blast. One of them is now 2-0 at tigers games, 4-0 if you count red wings games too
*I loved the walking vendors but didn’t like most of their prices, or that the cold lemonade guy disappeared after three innings.
*Loved getting shushed for Maggs’ at-bats
*Doing the wave was a ton of fun, even if it got out of hand with those two drunk guys later
*I was surprised at how shady the area surrounding Comerica was, but I rarely visit detroit
*I was really happy we managed to get Miss Rain into the bar even though she’s 20. Also, they had decent food
*Cabrera is HUGE in person. i mean, you realize his size on paper, but until you see him it doesn’t sink in
*Randomly shouting out things such as “you suck Raburn!” and “we want a Bingle!” and having you all laugh was a big highlight of the day.
*I was hoping we’d get on the screen more than “thank you blessyouboys.com” during their featured announcements.
and finally
*You guys all rock

Yeah as Mrsunshine said it was a blast, a great first tiger’s game to go to.
You wanted sunshine but you got rain, is there a problem with that?
First game or umpteenth game...
…it was a fun one. Always great to go in a group — and since I live all the way down here in Blue Jays Land (not a very rabid fan base, to be sure), it’s all that much better if we’re all nerdy about the same team.

This was the greatest baseball weekend ever
I took lots of pics and have some editing to do, from my fancy point and shoot but whatever. I took pictures at the Hens game too and then pics again today. I have about 177 pictures to go through so when i get it right, I’ll share them all. but of all the pictures I took the one that follows is my favorite. Also I LOVED meeting everyone. We are going to try and make this an annual event, that is if everyone is up for it…
Welcome to Detroit, NO sissies allowed
I'm up for it.
I had a blast. the car ride was fun, talking with Baroque and Terrence.J.Lynch. The bar was a good time (it was my first time in a bar since turning 21, and thus my first beer since than), of course a really fun game, and my favorite…explosions afterward.

Totally up for it
But somebody has to convince MLB to make Tigers always play the 4th at home. (And Avila to make sure it always falls on a weekend)
I'm up for an annual event, too
My sister had a blast as well. It was good for her to get out and do something that has nothing to do with her research or job search for a few hours. :)
If it’s annual that will give some of the people who couldn’t make it this time another opportunity. :)

check in a briefcase or backpack
Especially in one of those multiple little special pockets that are great for organizing, if you can remember why the heck you put a particular thing in that one pocket.
Or behind the nightstand or desk, or in the couch cushions. Those are the usual places mine hides.
