MLM Recap: Casper Wells falls a single short of the cycle
Expect the starting pitching scouting reports to be up sometime today.
LJ Gagnier got hit around in his 5 innings. Actually, that's not quite accurate. He gave up 4 earned runs on 5 hits (one homer) and 6 walks with 4 strikeouts. So he really did himself in. Casper Wells was a single away from the cycle as he went 3-5 with a double, triple and homer.
AA: Erie DNP (off-day)
Ugh. You have to feel for Jon Kibler, who went 7 shtuout innings, surrendering a mere 5 hits with 5 strikeouts. The problem was that the offense pretty much consisted of Gustavo Nunez, who went 2-4 with a stolen base.
Trevor Feeney went 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits with 3 strikeouts. Jordan Pratt went 1.2 hitless innings, striking out 3. Wade Gaynor was 2-4 with a double and a walk and Rob Brantly was 3-5.
Patrick Lawson went 5 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts. James Robbins was 2-4.

I'm still not used to seeing "Connecticut" and associating it with the Tigers
I’m used to the word “Oneonta”, which almost has an adjective like quality to it.
Connecticut is a place, like Toledo or Erie. I’ve been there, along I- 95. Oneonta is a place like purgatory or heaven. Not like a regular city. It’s where our newly signed draftees go for half a season of orientation to pro baseball. Not any more.
If you survived 2003, you can get through this!
Especially defensively
Though to be honest, he needs to get the walk rate up or the strikeout rate down to be more than a 4th outfielder. He has the Boesch problem right now (except he mashes lefties and plays better defense, which means they’d make a damn fine platoon).

big time
but Casper still looks like a nice fourth OF to me.
In 2011, for example, the Tigers probably need a no 2 and a no 3 or 5 hitter in their outfield.
Possible that they get a SS or 3B for one of those spots, but looking less likely barring a Beltre or Hanley Ramirez acquisition. I don’t think that Casper fits the bill. That he can play all OF spots helps him. Can he play shortstop?

Since when do the Whitecaps score runs??
Man, I need to go to more games…
I miss all the good times and players, and they’re right in my backyard!
When Jacob Turner was in WM, I missed out on seeing him!
I had my “Team Jacob” t-shirt all ready to go, too! (Perhaps this is why I’m still single…)
