Magglio Ordonez's season is over: surgery scheduled
The Tigers announced -- as has been tweeted by MLB.com's Jason Beck and the Detroit News' Tom Gage -- that Magglio Ordonez's season is over.
He will have surgery to stabilize his ankle on Wednesday.
Obviously at this point the $15m team option next year won't vest, and there is no buyout cost to the team. If Ordonez has played his last game as a Tiger, he'll remain one of the most famous and popular Tigers for years to come.
Just in case ... a little something to remember him by.

Magglio's 2007 season is the best season that I've seen any Tiger have at the plate, going back to 1967
If you survived 2003, you can get through this!
Not going to lie, I cry a little bit every time I watch a clip of that.
Although the MLB.com clip is far better. But I know it’s probably not embeddable.

Only a quarter?
Different story over here.

I'd love to have him back.
But I really doubt his ankle will be healed enough to really play well next year. I hope i’m wrong.

Just passing through
I was passing through Dulles International Airport on my way to Scotland and saw that in a bar while racing to our next plane. When I came home two weeks later after a bunch of flight delays and checked into our hotel in Denver at midnight or so I saw that malignant dwarf David Eckstein receiving the Series MVP award on the lobby TV. I don’t think I missed a thing during that two weeks.
We have our own malignant dwarf now
Watch out league!
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
I loved him as a Sawk and loved him even more as a Tiger.
If he leaves, I will definitely miss him.

Thanks for the Memories Mags
Love Mags, but the way they were talking on the radio tonight, afriad thats it. From 18 million to what ?, with Boris as agent. Guererro and Thome got how much this year, was it less than 3m, and dye didn’t sign with anyone because he wanted 4m.
I don’t think arb is an option, even though Maglio will be a B. Boris would say 10m, DD would say 3, and who knows what an arb would decide, doubt Illich would take the risk, bidding on Pistons. Mr I didn’t overpay for Mike Modano, why Magglio?
Lets face it, last 2 years OBS around 800 not worth 10m, with delining def, coming off ankle injury, and now 37. So without an arbitration offer Magglio may well feel jilted and sign with another club. Maybe it explain’s why he would not speak to press yesterday.
I’m sad, good luck Magg’s, hope I eat those words.
maggs rarely speaks to the press
even after a good game. I don’t blame him. The media dogged him in 2009 when he was having a bad first half.
I'm going down with this ship. I may as well, I got nothin' better to do.
Maggs money, who am i kidding, No way
Spend money on Lefty Michigander Scott Thornton, send Coke to the rotation.
Coke to the rotation
So we can screw with one of the good things in our ’pen?
Granderson was my Tiger, then Sizemore, then Willis. Since they're all gone, I'm taking Raburn and hoping the pattern holds.
That is, of course, my favorite single moment as a baseball fan
So for that, I will always have a soft spot for Magglio. I hope they find a way to bring him back.

Mine, too.
Words can’t describe what happened to that stadium when he hit that ball. Everything stopped and slowed down. When it went over the wall, the CoPa just exploded. People who’d never met we’re hugging, cheering and crying together.
I love Maggs
I hope he heals well. No one thought he’d play ball again after the knee surgery. I’m sure he’ll play next season, he’s got the entire winter to rehab. Whether or not its in a Tigers uni remains to be seen. He’ll always be a Tiger to me. I hope they have the good sense to bring him bat. Maggs has been the best protection for Miguel since we got him. I’m heartbroken.

Resign Maggs
The tigers have quite a bit of money coming off the books after this season. Maggs has proven himself since he’s been a Tiger. If we can rent Damon at 8 mil for one year, we can certainly rent Mags for 10 mil for one year. I know I may get clubbed for this, but I would also get rid of Inge, Laird, and Bonderman. I like Inge a lot, but from a baseball propective 6.5 million is a lot of money for the numbers that he puts up. Just sayin.
with you on Bondo & Laird
but I can see keeping Inge for his glove @ 3rd. He has some stroke (when he sticks to the batting stance that works). I’d drop Zumaya & Guillen in the off season. Both are injured WAY TOO OFTEN (still not sure if their initials are DL or IR). Pick up a quality pitcher in the off season, re-sign Maggs, re-sign Damon, keep Rhymes up, re-sign Peralta, see if Raburn draws any interest on the market and find a veteran catcher to work with Avila that can hit (sorry Gerald, you couldn’t hit water if you fell out of a boat). I’d sacrifice defense for some offense from the position.
Needs for 2011:
- and/or #5 hitter
- catcher
LF power (Carl Crawford would be GREAT)
bullpen set-up & long relief

Don't really think Crawford has power...
I mean, he’s got some, but he’s more a tablesetter.
