Brandon Inge activated; Danny Worth to the DL
I knew something was up when the Tigers delated their game notes until past 3 p.m. They just hit the internet. As the headline says, Brandon Inge was re-activated from a stay on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured hand. He spent the minimum time on it.
To make room, infielder Danny Worth was placed on the DL with a sore left heel, which has hampered him for a while now.

We can't stop Inge from playing through whatever injury he wants
At least we can make sure Worth fully recovers.
Interesting view.

Inge and Peralta
I suppose it’s a good thing Inge has so much range. He will have to display it again with Peralta at short.
I wanna see medical records!
Brandon, I love ya, but it will hurt my heart if you come back too soon.

cool to see inge but
boesch is back to batting 5th which i’d rather not see YET.
like going 1 for 9 yesterday is the end of his batting slump? (two game totals)
yeah 2 rbi but still 5 LOB
i hope to hell the haircut works
Injuns GM quoted on Peralta
This is from a Tribe website. The quote is from November, 2006
“It would be an extreme challenge for us to be a championship-caliber team with Jhonny playing, offensively and defensively, the way he did last year,” [GM Mark] Shapiro said. “Shortstop is just too pivotal a position to have that kind of performance.”
Peralta hit .257 (146-for-569) with 13 homers and 68 RBI. He committed 16 errors and his lack of range, especially to his left, was a season-long problem.
The Indians made a video study of Peralta’s season. It did not make for good viewing.
“I know he didn’t make many errors,” Shapiro said, “but we went back and watched on video every single ball hit to him all year – and his range was among the worst of any major-league shortstop. There were more balls that an average major-league shortstop needs to get to.”
Kind of unusual to see a GM ripping his own player like that. I’ve seen general disdain among Tribe fans for Jhonny, but coming from his own GM…..
Wait til next year, again.
Maybe there's something in the water in Cleveland
Their basketball team’s owner wasn’t too shy about letting LeBron know how he felt either.
Yeah. Sounds like dumping Peralta almost makes up for losing LeBron, though.
Poor Clevelanders, though. They haven’t won a thing in any sport since JFK was in the White House. Could lead to some bitterness!
Wait til next year, again.
so if inge was so close to coming back why the peralta trade? why does DD get so much slack. we are 4 years past 2006 have a huge payroll, bad contracts and a crappy minor system. does illitch really want to trust this guy to go out and spend freely in the free agent market

Idk maybe the glaring need for a ss next year and the shit on the market for them?

I doubt they pony up the $ 7 mil to keep Peralta for next season, and certainly not as a SS.
Of course, if they’ll pay $ 9 mil for Renteria, he’s only a bit better than Peralta at SS.
Wait til next year, again.
You guys keep bashing peraltas defense however from what a buddy at work said he was the American leagues second best fielding 3rd baseman last year. Who knows. To last to check.

Your buddy is wrong. Tell him that using fielding pct to measure defense went out during WWII
Wait til next year, again.
He might make a good low price 3B for next year

Plan A: Look for upgrades via trade or free agency (Beltre or trade)
Plan B: Offer arbitration to Inge and see what he does. I wouldn’t go more than a year or two with him, but I could be persuaded if I see a resurgence down the stretch this season.
Plan C: Peralta would be in the mix with lesser options, but I see him as a downgrade from the Brandbino. I don’t know why the Tigers would be looking for low cost options, with $ 75 million gross, and $ 69 million net coming off the payroll after this season.
Wait til next year, again.
And if your gonna moan about ‘blah blah sucked since 06 and no ws and such’ then take a look around and see who has been there. Or even at the gms and owners. We don’t have it half bad.

I'm not too worried about Peralta's defense at SS
In 2008 and 2009, his UZR was near zero. He’s not a huge asset or liability at SS. Keep in mind that he wasn’t moved from SS because he was awful like Carlos was. He was moved because the Indians had a plus defender in Asdrubal Cabrera that they needed SS open for. Cabrera hasn’t been a great defensive SS, but I believe that was the expectation at the time. If Peralta can provide an UZR of zero and a wRC+ of 100, he is an upgrade.
He was moved because he was a terrible SS. See the direct quote from his GM above.
Wait til next year, again.
Not quite
He was moved because his GM thought he was a terrible SS. GMs are frequently wrong, and Shapiro has since been fired. Perhaps seeing every ball hit to him for a year would reveal a fundamental problem. I don’t know. All I have is numbers, and the numbers ain’t bad.
It looks like he's improved
But it’s hard to forget the period of time between 2005-2007 where his UZR was between 6-12 below a normal SS.

this worry about jhonny at SS
should be nothing compared to what Leyland has already put us through with Raburn at 2B (or 3B or OF)
give the guy a chance, they have already tried everyone else they could think of.
Raburn out in the field is sufficient when talking about his nightmarish fielding.
Ryan Raburn antagonist.
