Inconsistency hurts Tigers

Why can't our Tigers seem to put 2+ wins in a row together? Take tonight, for example. The night before, they gave those idiot highly competitive Guillenites White Sox a good Mo-town mashing. Today, THEY CAN'T EVEN SCORE A &*#^@*ng RUN!!!!!!!!!! What's going on? A number of things...

First, the bullpen just hasn't been consistent enough- Take a look at the Boston series. Jose Valverde gave up more runs in the 1.1 innings that he pitched than the starters gave up in the NEXT TWO GAMES!!!!! And that's just the start of Detroit's problems. Ryan Perry, who might be a really nice kid and a good baseball player, just doesn't have it in 2010. It's sorta reminiscent of Edwin Jackson in the second half of 2009: The ball is flying out of its stitches to get into the stands. He just can't control that 95-97 mph fastball that he has. (Now that I think about it, he might be like the 2009 Joel Zumaya, just with less injuries and facial hair)

But, we can't blame everything on the bullpen. The Tigers offense has been anemic (more like comatose) the last 2-3 weeks. I'm sorry, but when you can't score against Cleveland, you might just have a problem. The addition of Jhonny Peralta might help, but one player an offense does not make. Also, Brennan Boesch has been in a slump lately. (as if you needed me to remind you of that) It's really quite sad to watch a young man who was, at one point, hitting .350-.360 for an extended period now have an after-game party when he just gets on base by going 0-3 with a walk. (I'm not saying that he does ... But I'm saying that it's becoming more of a special event when he gets on base)

All told, 8 games back for any other team might be a closeable gap with 50+ games left to be played. But for the Tigers.... we'll have to see.

You should use more caps and bold

It really helps get your point across more effectively.

I think that might be what's going wrong

His caps lock might be broken

He's kinda saying what we're thinking...just more loudly

Frustration showing, I can understand it.

The bullpen has kind of fallen apart after Zumaya got hurt. The offense has regressed. He’s not wrong.

I couldn't see through the formatting garbage

He’s obviously having problems controlling THE VOLUME OF HIS VOICE.

Seriously though, frustration does not equal blindly blaming players that have been injured or don’t play for us anymore.

3 for 4 plus a shot to the warning track for the Brandbino's last out

I’m beginning to think that we won’t be able to find a better option at third base.
Still don’t like the fixation on strikeouts. By that measure, Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle really sucked!

Wait til next year, again.

It's a pretty bare market

Other than the previously mentioned Adrian Beltre, is there anyone else that is (a) readily available this offseason and (b) would be a clear upgrade to Inge’s skill set? I don’t know if there is. That being said, we will likely need to “overpay” (I hate that word) for Beltre to come to Detroit. Inge will hopefully be much cheaper. I wouldn’t mind seeing Inge in a Tigers uniform next season for this reason.

3 years 36

Or 4 years, 50 wouldn’t be an overpay for Beltre. I’d offer him that and if he refuses go to either Inge or Peralta.

That's the thing though

For a guy that supposedly refused to even interview with us in 2004, would $12 million per year be enough?

by Rob Rogacki on Aug 5, 2010 11:50 AM EDT up reply actions

We sucked in 2004

We have a good chance to be a competitive club next year, especially if money is spent right. So yeah, I think he’d go for that.

No one knows why he declined to interview

It could have been that we sucked, it could be a Detroit thing. I just don’t want to see us with another albatross contract that limits flexibility in other areas.

My pipe dream is that DD makes a move for the Greinke in the off season.

And gets a free Kila in the deal.

Turner for the two

I’d do that deal. And Dayton Moore might too.

Hell, see if they'd trade Kila, Greinke and Gordon.

Aim high!

We fail with runners in scoring position.

End of story. That’s been the consensus here. Someone (besides Miggy) needs to hit with RISP and get some RBI
