Cole Nelson, Flying Tigers hold no hitter for 13+ innings, win in 17
Ryan Ketchner gave up five earned runs in five innings on five hits (one a homer) with three walks and seven strikeouts. Zach Simons struck out three batters in his 1.2 innings, also allowing a hit and a walk (bring him up, DD). Michael Bertram was 1-for-4 with a homer.
Brayan Villarreal put up a pretty good start, allowing a mere run on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. The downside: the run came on a homer. John Murrian was 2-for-4 with a double.
A+: Lakeland 2, Dunedin 1 (17 innings)
Holy freaking Moses. Cole Nelson held Dunedin hitless for seven innings, allowing only a walk and collecting seven strikeouts. The bullpen then put together 10 innings of one run ball by not even allowing Dunedin a hit until the 14th inning. The Flying Tigers' offense finally won the game in the 17th. Francisco Martinez was 1-for-8 with a double, Daniel Fields was 1-for-6 with two walks and Patrick McKenna was 3-for-7 with a walk.
Victor Larez gave up three earned runs in 5.2 innings on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Corey Jones was 2-for-4 with a double.
Patrick Lawson gave up two earned runs on five hits and three strikeouts in five innings. PJ Polk was 3-for-5 with a double and Dixon Machado was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

what the tigers should do
Agree completely with Zach Simons, He’s earned it. Cole Nelson has moved into my big 4 of sleepers. Originally, I understand they considered him a possible RP. Look at his stats at GCL. Congrats to the Tigers for the 3 level promotion.

Cole Nelson Lousey stats at Auburn, 5.64 ERA 10th rounder, 6' 7" 248, low 90's lefty
Congrats DD on finding a Gem, recognizing talent in the rough. Hey invite him to Camp, 21 is old enough.
Hey now
It’s been 2 starts. Just saying, beware.

Awesome game last night
I was happy to finally see Nelson pitch. He has handled things pretty well in both the GCL and his first to starts for Lakeland. He also had the scouts buzzing last night.
6’7 is pretty tall, with a lot of moving parts. Starter or reliever, it was nice to see positive results from an organization that is paper thin at lefty.

Look at GCL too, David Tokarz. What about Adam Wilk, JAYRC? You saw him pitch. How does he do it, other than great control? Is his fastball getting any faster with better conditioning? I’m looking forward to first hand opinions from you from Lakeland.
